Hi guys, we have a 2019 A4 that recently gave us an error for the DRL and turn signal on the left headlight. I removed the headlights and was able to figure out that the DRL module (4M0907397AC) was bad. I did this by swapping with the right side headlight. I ordered one from ebay with the same part number but when I installed it, it still did not work. After doing some additional searching, Im getting conflicting info that I have to program the module to the car again. Could someone confirm and also explain how I would go about doing it? I have an OBDEleven dongle but not sure if I could do it with that either. Appreciate any help.

I was going to ask you to post a complete Auto-Scan (VCDS, since this is a VCDS customer/owner forum).
But.....

I would suggest you try to get support from their forum as they would know what you are working with best.
My friend has VCDS so Im trying to get him to come over and get a scan. Will post that once I get it.

Hey guys,

I posted a while back that the wifes 2019 A4 started giving an error on the front left headlight. I was able to zero it down to the DRL module so I went and got another one online but it was not as easy as replacing the module. I was later told I need to code the new module. I was finally able to scan the car and Ive included the log. Any idea on where to start? If I buy this module, any idea on how to get it to work?

I posted a while back
Threads merged.

I was later told I need to code the new module.
These modules don't have Coding. A replacement might need a dataset loaded, might be component Component Protection dealt with; not sure.

FWIW, your existing module is 4M0-907-397-AC. Are you sure that 4M0-907-397-AD is an appropriate replacement? Just because an eBay seller claims it's compatible with your car does not mean it really is.

I had actually bought one that was the same -AC part number it did not work. I did some research and some people have gotten the -AD part number to work.

Are we able to get datasets or is that a dealer thing?

Part numbers are only partially relevant

Your only option to avoid having it coded is by buying the module which is specifically from your model of car, with the same specification headlights.

For example, you may have had a -AC part number, but you may have sourced the exact same part number from a A5 or Q5 etc... it will not work, it knows the dataset written to the module does not match the headlight you have fitted it to.

Datasets are available to an extent, but VCDS isn't going to help you to write it to the module

---------------

Notice this in your scan:

Dataset Number: 8W0909519B 0010

But that is only useful to source the file if you have ODIS Engineering.

Otherwise you should get the same part number listed from factory build of your car, and have it SVM coded with ODIS Service. Those are the 2 main resolutions to changing the dataset of the module.
