Anyone install a webasto coolant heater in a 2015 Touareg TDI? Or a frostheater?
Looking for some help or instructions. I'm not installing the euro unit. An Evo I think it's called. A new model unit. Tia

What is your desired outcome? Quicker cabin comfort or warmer fluid temps because you're worried about cold starting struggles?

The OEM units as mentioned above are for interior comfort.... the CNRB already has built in thermal management so it warms up as fast as possible during winter conditions... there's no need for engine pre-heating. You'll have to go custom with some sort of aftermarket mickey mouse heater if you want a "block heater".

Not installing a OEM unit. Evo top webasto, to pre heat engine. Aftermarket. Mickey mouse, not really. Have one in my duramax. Works great. Truck is parked unplugged in -40c weather for extended periods. Makes starting much easier. Just trying to setup same thing for Touareg. Just looking for a place to install. Just pre planning. Don't want to figure this out along the way and get held up for something un forseen

You should probably ask FrostHeater Inc.

I installed an OEM Webasto (actually Eberspacher) in my 2015 Touareg CNRB.
Webasto can be installed in the way that both - cabin and engine block are heated at the same time. The top-end configuration includes remote controller, and the coolant shut-off valve, which directs the hot coolant to the cabin only, and once the cabin is nice and toasty, the valve is open and engine block is heated. I understand that you're prioritizing the engine block heating. If that's what you need, Webasto can be installed this way, and it's one of OEM configurations. The benefit of using the OEM config is that Webasto integrates with the A/C controller, and the infotainment screen.

FrostHeater is electric only (I think), so it might be a better option if you're planning to run it in a garage, or somewhere close to electric outlet, or you're concerned about fuel usage or car battery charge.

I'd rather go webasto than frostheater. Wife can't plug in while at work. I contacted kufatec by email yesterday. They have a kit. Seems like it may not be for my vehicle. They only referenced a wiring harness available for my ride.

Is there manual that speak to each of these OEM configurations?
And thanks for the info so far. It helps

I'm assuming yours is 2-zone A/C which means it's the same as mine. If so, you have two options:

* with the solenoid - this is the top-end configuration - this divides the circuit into two smaller circuits - cabin, and engine block. Thanks to the valve, the hot coolant may flow either between webasto and the heater core in the cabin, or between heater core, webasto, and the engine block (both circuits). It is not possible to heat the engine block only - cabin is always included.

* without the solenoid - this allows coolant flowing through webasto, the heater core and the engine block always.

Even if your preferred config is the latter, I would recommend building the top-end config. With VCDS, you can still program the solenoid to always direct coolant to both circuits. If you ever change your mind, you can just change coding in Webasto controller, and you'll be able to heat the cabin first.

Here's what your game plan could be:
* source Webasto (Eberspacher) from Europe. It's not difficult. Find as complete set as possible. Make sure you're looking for a 2-zone config as the plumbing is different for a 4-zone
* optionally, but probably best way - purchase the wiring harness from Kufatec - I did it as well. I wouldn't do it again, as the harness is fairly simple, but I just wanted to reduce number of variables in this fairly complex project
* you're going to need some additional parts, like OEM clamps, fasteners - most of it available in NA
* if you want a remote controller, you'll need to look on ebay in Europe
* you will also need to run fuel line and install the pump - but I'd say that's easy

Once you start the project, I can give you some more detailed step by step. Substantial part of this project is planning and procurement
