2015 R8 Tail light coding

Hello,

Working on a 2015 R8 plus us spec, the vehicle came to me with lighting issues, with minimal information from the customer. Originally when it came in the only lights working were the turn signals, but they operated the reverse lights. I checked wiring to the tail light and discovered that the reverse light wire was operating the tail lights. So i checked the coding and found that it was set for rest of world. I changed it to us spec and now the brake lights and turn signals operate correctly but nothing else. Obviously someone else was in the module, are there other coding settings I have to change?

Getting outside my comfort zone... so don't get your hopes up too much....

I appreciate that, that did solve all the issues with the taillights. Same codes and issues returned for the head lights, was wishful thinking that it would solve all the issues. I will look into the headlights now wiring wise.

Thanks for the update. Since this car has LED headlights that appear to be directly controlled via the BCM (instead of a 55 control module) it may still be related. Please post the scan in the current condition and let us know of you can see the part numbers on the headlights. The latest Audi part numbers based on VIN are:

OK, if you have the ability to pull Carfax (or similar) on this car I would do that to see if the water/flood damage can be confirmed. Alternatively, you could question the customer and if they can't add clarity find out if it has a Rebuild/Salvage title.

In the meanwhile I would inspect J519 so see if any issues exist at the main connectors or inside the control unit on the board. (This should be a plastic BCM that allows you to unclip the lid). If all is well there I might pull the headlights to see what's what. PL24 shows the low beam power module on the bottom (meaning it could have the most water damage) and this temp link may compliment your repair info:

I'll report back if I can identify the power supply sources/fuses to the BCM that run the headlight functions.

I did pull the carfax, it was a total loss November 2017 due to flood. I pulled apart J519 and inspected for any issues, none found. I back probed the T14a connector at the left headlight, pin 8 and 6 have power with the headlight switch on. Pin 4 has 5v with key on, pin 12 has power when switch high beams on. All grounds check good. I did pull the the low beam power module; there appears to be signs of a water line but no excessive corrosion. Seems kind of crazy that either all 4 head lights are bad or all 4 power modules, but it seems that way.

I agree. All 4 modules failing at the same time is sorta crazy ... but they might have failed slowly and it got dumped on you like this (hot mess).

Based on your testing I think the BCM is OK. I would be tempted to get new or used modules for one side only if the customer isn't in a massive rush and this car isn't clogging up your shop. Doing it one side at a time would be the cautious route in the event that the internal LED headlight components managed to fail instead (or in addition to) of the modules.
