Need some help with my Touareg V10

My 2005 V10 TDI Touareg has been standing since last year, A bunch of XMas tree lights on the dash and I loose my digital display. I want to be sure what is causing the issues before I start throwing parts at it as it can become an expensive excercise. Im going to attach the last scan I done , not really sure what to make of it.

The car was sitting while I had to the timing chain tensioner; the battery definitely went flat during that time. No apparent water inside the passenger compartment, but it has previously had an issue with the sunroof and water ingress. Here's the autoscan, thanks...

So no new on my side, I took the advice from the above post but I still do not see a problem in that area, I checked all the joints everything looks sound. No corrossion noted. Wires look sound in that area. Im keeping the vehicle on a trickle charge, as I note the batteries seen to run down if I dont. The vehicle still starts up with all its faults, what I do notice is the voltmeter on the dash drops almost immediately to under 6 volts after starting.

I tend to agree with you, I was hoping that it was something else more simpler to fix. On the trickle charger it went up to 12.1V on the terminals. As soon as the car starts it runs a constant 8.6V , Switching the lights on it goes down to 8.1V.

So I guess thats it confirmed ! I just didnt want to believe it in the first place as its a complete bugger to remove the alternator on these v10 engines. Nevermind the price to replace it. Thanx for everyones help.

This I measure at the positive and negative terminals inside the engine compartment, The one battery is under the seat and the other is in the boot under the spare wheel, I have a basic multimeter that I use.

Even if the alternator was shot, batteries in good condition that have been recently charged should maintain a higher voltage than that. However, even if the batteries are shot, the alternator should raise the voltage higher than that once the engine is running.

I'm wondering if you have a bad connection somewhere? At the alternator? At the batteries? At whatever leads to those terminals?

Check voltage in other places as well with the engine running. At the alternator. At the each of the batteries. Use VCDS to see what some of your control modules think the Terminal 30 voltage is.

Hi Again peeps

So before starting I het 12.1V at the front battery, The rear shows 12.4V
I started the vehicle and measured the front battery whilst idling , at first it was around 9.4V and after a while 9.1V. The rear battery went to 12.3V. I run a fresh scan with the car idling. Here it is..... any thoughts?

So before starting I het 12.1V at the front battery, The rear shows 12.4V
I started the vehicle and measured the front battery whilst idling , at first it was around 9.4V and after a while 9.1V. The rear battery went to 12.3V.

Sounds to me like the front battery isn't getting charged from the alternator.

I wonder if the rubber drive coupling for the alternator (it's gear driven engine with no drive belts) has stripped and the alternator is not charging at all. Or if poor battery connections are causing the terminal 30 codes.
