I've been working with someone who wants to play with openpilot on their Porsche Macan. It happens to work because it's nearly identical to an 8R Audi Q5, but this particular one didn't have factory Lane Assist, so he needed to make a coding change in the EPS.

So, he ordered a HEX-NET. And then sent me a screenshot of an email from Helen at Ross-Tech. Apparently she actually reads all the Additional Notes on each order. She held his order temporarily to write him a personal email about the particular support restrictions he'd have on each of the several cars he listed when ordering.

Just to make sure he'd be happy with it. Thought that was classy. Not enough of that sort of business in the world anymore.

The reason why we explicitly ask for the intended use is because people actually order for incompatible brands/models. Porsche is not supported and the Macan is not identical to the Q5. It is different, especially electronic wise. So we don't consider it supported - in general - even though some functions may work.

Sorry, I should have been more clear for people reading this later.

When I say they're almost identical, I was referring to the onboard CAN messaging, which very nearly Just Worked for openpilot ADAS control. I think one signal moved, can't remember which.

It's true that VCDS only has partial Macan support, but it can do the one thing we need it for, because it's the same basic EPS from the Q5 and VCDS has ASAM data for it.

I believe your friend thanked Helen and in her replies, the copies went to me. I have thanked her for her diligence and high standard, making this praise known to the owners.

This is not a special case. She does this with every order. And yes, I meant every order. She is the person that processes them all. She has been with Ross-Tech since 2009 if memory serves... I could look it up but am too lazy. We have a great staff and Helen stands out in her service to our customers. So do all of our tech staff, and our R&D Staff. Santos answers all the sales calls these day and he too stands out. Not to be overlooked, our order fulfillment is being done by Mike and soon a new employee...

Each at Ross-Tech goes the extra mile to see to it that our customers receive the best service possible and as a manager of such a team, it is a pleasure to hear the praise they deserve. Too often we fail to say thank you to those that make it all happen.

Me on the other hand..... I feel like I am becoming more of a curmudgeon as each day passes. I think I may need an altitude adjustment.
