Hi everyone, I have looked for something in the forum but could not find anything so posting here.
My R36 from December 2009, seems to be equipped with TPMS sensors inside the rim (the car is a bit of the last version with modernized interior, has no rubber valves but matellic valves instead (all original) and also has the module 65 stating "HW: 3C0 959 433 AM" and suggesting that I have indeed the TPMS module installed at 433 MHz.
Unsurprisingly for a 15 year old car (I bought the car when it was 5 years old), the TPMS batteries went dead and I progressively started to have more and more TPMS issues.
While I can disconnect the TPMS measuring when my winter wheels (which do not have any TPMS sensor in them) are fitted, the TPMS measuring comes back On all the time after a few seconds when I have the Summer wheels (equipped with old TPMS sensors) on and after I press a long time on the TPMS button and get the "Tire monitoring off".
To me it is a signal that while the TPMS Module cannot get info from the TPMS sensors, it knows that there are TPMS sensors in the wheel, so refuses to be switched off for more than a few seconds (I have seen videos on how to remove the function, but this is not what I am after).
What I do not understand is that in my VCDS, in the section 65, the "Basic Function" is greyed out. From what I understand, this is this function that would allow to sync the new TPMS sensors with the TPMS module.
From what I understand, there are 2 types of TPMS:
- The generic ones that require a USD 200 tool to scan the RF code of each sensor and then connect via OBD2 to the 65 module to inform the TPMS module of what sensor is where
- The pre-programmed TPMS sensors that already have the parameters for a few cars coded, and that only require to drive the car for 15-20 minutes at speed over 30 mph in order to wake the senror up and get the TPMS module to recognise each sensor.
The issue is that this pre-programed sensors seem to come from "Huf", which does not list Passat B6 compatible options. On usual website like auto-doc, it seems that the "HUF RDE042V26" is compatible, but I do not find this info anywhere outside this website so I am not sure.
My questions are as follows:
- Has anyone replaced old TPMS sensors on Passat R36 equipped with in-wheel TPMS sensors?
- If yes, what sensors have they bought/installed?
- If yes, how did they pair these sensors to the TPMS module? Did it pair automatically after driving 15-20 minutes?
