Hello, I have a 2002 Audi s4 and I keep losing connection with hex-net cable when I go into any module to try watch live data or do any adaptations. I have connection for couple seconds but I noticed once the sample rates jump higher than 5.0 it times out and I get a message no response from controller. I have a 2012 Passat and hex-net seems to be working with no problem on that car. I have tried using a different computer but I still have the same problem. I am using windows 10 home and I have disabled USB settings.

Are you using it with Wi-Fi or plugged in with USB? In either case does it make a difference if you try the other type of connection? Try some different measuring blocks in other modules, do some of them work or do they all fail like this? Any additional anti-virus software on this PC that's not part of windows? What model computer is it?

I have not tried using wifi yet. Connection fails in all modules. Will connect and read values but after couple seconds the connection drops. Sometimes it tries to regain connection but still eventually loses it and I get the message no response from controller. No additional anti-virus software. Looks like HP Envy Sleekbook 6 PC. I've also tried using a Dell laptop. I will post the autoscan in few minutes

Its possible the connection loss is right at the DLC connector. Over the years, we have heard that other devices have damaged the DLC pins. You might want to take a look at that.

A way to test this is if you wiggle the HEX-NET while trying to communicate, does it work better/worse?

If the pins are damaged, you really need to rewire the DLC.

Many tools do not comply with the SAE standard for the pins that plug into the connectors. Many are too thick.

I'm not blasting any other manufacturer - just trying to give you another thing to consider.

I have tried wiggling wires and doesn't change anything. I have an outbreak box and connection is good until I connect to any module and that's when it drops connection. I have no communication issues when I use a launch scanner.

Sounds like mechanical connections have been eliminated... I will step back and let @Shaun continue the conversation. It was just a thought.

Are you making the live measuring tests while driving the car? Or is it standing and just idling?

Older models often drop the measuring functions if the processor in the module cannot handle the update of live data while also running the car.

Since you have run autoscans on the '02, why don't you post an autoscan from it - see the blue bar at the top of the page if you don't know how. The "how to" menu will have the details.

Have you tried testing measuring values with VCDS-Mobile from a phone or other web browser? I would be curious if that behaves differently. Also please test this again with VCDS and pay attention to the LEDs on the interface when starting measuring values, ordinarily all three LEDs should be lit or blinking in a pattern, but when the interface restarts all but one LED will turn off briefly. Watch for if this is happening when the measuring values drop. I realize this might be difficult to see depending on the location of the DLC in your vehicle but try to give these things a check it will help us narrow down the problem.

Car is standing while doing live measurements. I lose communication whether the car is on or off. I will post the autoscan tomorrow.

So I actually hooked up the hex-net to wifi and it actually seems to be working fine without any communication issues. Still confused why it doesn't communicate properly with the usb cable. I will take a look at the LED lights tomorrow

This suggests that it is software on the PC that is interfering with USB comms. If you don't have any extra anti-virus, the next most likely software is certain mouse configuration and touchpad software, if you have something like that running you might try closing it and see if it fixes USB comms.

Are you plugging in the VCDS directly to the vehicles DLC ? Or, going through the brake-out box? (wasn't clear from your previous comments).

I'll try that but what are the chances it does the same thing on two different laptops.
