Hello,

See attached the scan, i just bought this MK7 GOLF R wagon which has a few little issues however i'm working through them. One I am struggling with is the catalytic readiness - Failed or incomplete on the readiness test.

It has an ECE approved Bull X downpipe which I also have on my MK7 GTI and it's never thrown any faults up. Any ideas on how I can get this to pass emissions at TUV as I understand even with ECE approval if it fails the readiness it's a failure regardless.

If you mean this problem, it is probably caused by your exhaust pipe. Specifically the catalytic converter. Which is completely missing or does not achieve such efficiency that the control module is satisfied with the exhaust gases. I am convinced that there is only one solution. Install a catalytic converter for which the control module software was prepared.

In fact you could Graph the o2's on your MK7 Gti (any petrol car with a cat will work the same) - Engine up to temp. At idle and then at a stable 2000rpm. That will be your "known good" to compare the faulty one to.

Thanks for the help. I will look into this today. I am also experiencing strange behavior of the headlights which i will likely make another post about shortly. Essentially, the car has the xenons with light assist and is fully functional apart from the high beams. When I run the high beam test on vcds, there's no sound of the shutter actuating which I would assume is either coding or a mechanical failure of the shutter. Surely the chances of both failing at once are extremely slim and therefore it's more than likely coding related. I can actually see the blue high beams icon on the dash when I pull the stalk towards me but nothing happens. For some context which might not even be relevant, the car has been lowered and a DCC delete kit installed, i've tried coding out dcc and also coding it in as well as performing basic headlight calibrations. What would you suggest to diagnose further?

And one more thing that could mean something. On December 22, 2022, the front of the car was repaired. After the crash.

Here we need a wiring diagram. The faults are a bit like missing power supply. Check the 14 pin connector on each headlight. Specifically pin no. 4. there should be +12V there after turning on the key. But in general, you need to compare the situation on your electrical installation with the wiring diagrams.

Actually making measurements with refernce diagrams increases your chances.

Looking at an autoscan is not going to fix your car - Yo got to do some legwork yourself.

Sorry I was not clear. I've measured voltage on pin for full beam and I'm geting around 12v when full beams are active.

Does this mean that the issue is purely with the headlight or could it be a can communication error with the headlight as well blocking it from accepting the signal? Sorry if this makes no sense. I am no expert and this is just my understanding of how it might work.

If it is down to the headlight then that means both failed at the same time as I'm getting 12v on both.

Controlling the headlight module is perhaps more complicated than you think. If you are not an expert and want to fix it yourself, then be prepared to be an expert. If you will not be an expert so your lights will not work. It is really the first necessary step to get a wiring diagram. And therefore to understand what is going on. :)

Your the headlights are controlled by the J745 module which is connected to CAN Extended and other modules in the headlights J668 and 667 between these modules there is a data communication.
