Hey peeps

I believe my condenser has a leak (will get confirmation come Monday) however, I just wanted to ask if it is safe to work on changing any component related to the AC once all the refrigerant has been removed?

I’ve read that with the refrigerant in, it can be dangerous, and that seems to be the main concern. So assuming it is all removed, is it safe for a novice to have a go at from a safety perspective?

Having read the manuals and seen some vids, it does look relatively straight forward plus I’ll be working on replacing my headlight bracket and parking aids too so thought I could change the condenser whilst the bumper is off.

Car in question is a Touareg, 7L, 2003/4, V6, RHD (UK).

New to this so if any other info is required then let me know. Danke.

If the system is empty there is no danger apart from the usual precautions required when working on a vehicle.

Awesome thanks.

I forgot to add, is it normal for there not to be any fault codes, however, when reading MVB 013 under AC (as advised by RT Support) it shows compressor shut off code 3, which is low refrigerant pressure.

Do error codes only come if the pressure is below a certain point?

In the Uk you need to have FGAS Certification to work on Hvac / AirCon.

I dont have it and have worked on this stuff for 40 years.

I doubt very much that an English Police Officer could Spell FGAS never mind enforce it !!

They don't have time for that. They're too busy hunting down people for posting the wrong things on social media.

A UK police officer would be very keen to arrest you if you rearranged the acronym FGAS into a hurty non inclusive anti diversity word…FFS :banghead:

It's funny how "Smoking a fag" means something completely different in the UK than the USA.
