Short Lived SRI Reset (VW Caddy Maxi 2015)

Using the SRI reset function ostensibly works, but for me I find that an oil change/service reminder shows up on the dash after only a short time/mileage, but when I look at the values in the SRI reset log, they don't appear to be any where near the limits, so I don't understand why the service reminder reappears so quickly. This is a UK vehicle, 1.6 diesel engine.

Here are the logs prior to performing the SRI reset. 700km is obviously less than 10000km and 134d is obviously less than 730d.

It looks as you would anticipate, but I fully expect that in a short time the service reminder will show up again, as this has happened several times before and I don't understand why; can any one explain? Maybe something to do with IDE00517-ESI: soot entry or IDE00518-ESI: thermal load? i.e. the service reminder is warning of something else?

Looks like somebody changed different channel values manually.

IDE01153-SIA: maximum value of distance to service 0 km
Should be 15000 km
That should be your problem.

IDE03349-FIX: Max. distance until next mileage-related inspection 10000 km
That is very low for Mileage related Inspection (Filter, etc.), should be 30000

Oh OK, I'll give that a try, thanks! Why would that not just kick in immediately though? Perhaps there is some minimum mileage that must occur before service reminders are enabled? Anyway I expect you're right, thanks again.

Perhaps there is some minimum mileage that must occur before service reminders are enabled?
My experience is that it can take up to 500 miles before the service due changes to a meaningful value.

The reason why I added these additional meas. values is because we are otherwise missing data, which isn't available as adaptation channels and helps us to determine what is and isn't the problem in cases like this. In addition it helps us understand the actual calculation of flexible intervals better and correlate it to customer issues like service remember stay on after a service already being reset and last but not least, this helps on the warranty maintenance side even after factory warranty is expired to document whether or not the owners/drivers have exceeded their intervals beyond a reasonable amount (a recent maximum I came across was 120000 km exceedance w/o an oil change, where the shop in question asked for assistance in order to verify how long the customer must have ignored the message).

When checking the VIN, the car is PR-QG1 (flexible Intervals) and PR-QI6 (flexible Interval of 30000 km or 2 years) while the data above indicates that IDE00515 is set to "poor oil quality" indicating the car has been put on fixed intervals at some point either intentionally or by accident due to a manual / button reset via the instrument cluster or car menu. The actual internal settings have not been changed though, meaning IDE00492 still shows the vehicle being initially set to ESI (Extended Service Intervals) which is why you end up with some mismatch in the data like IDE00935, IDE00697 and IDE00698 behaving illogically. This won't have any influence on the fixed interval calculation but appears to lead to confusion in this thread. 😉

The basic issue (i.e. service reminder active after a reset service) is expected once you look at the values and Niels has pointed that our already. IDE01153 was incorrectly set. With the VW Commercial vehicles there were a a lot of changes resulting in different intervals for MY <= 2010, MY 2011-2012, MY 2013 and => MY 2014. In this case (MY 2015) and the correlating interval (PR-QI4/QI6/QI7), the first inspection would need to happen after 30000 km or 2 years, followed by 30000 km or an annual inspection from there on (es usual, whichever threshold is hit first and the extended inspection will not be specially handled here and must be determined based on previous intervals/mileage). This also means that IDE03350 is definitely not correctly set for either flexible or fixed intervals, because the vehicle certainly has had more than one service events before.

Long story short, several service event related values are off and make little sense. This wouldn't happen if they were either manually reset via the dashboard or via VCDS. So somebody or something screwed up the settings before. In order to rectify the situation, what you want is to decide whether or not you want to keep it on fixed intervals or if you want to put it back onto flexible intervals. Let us know and we'll provide the proper values, also make sure to include the date and mileage for the most recent oil service and inspection (2 dates & mileages please if they did not fall together).

Thanks for the very detailed reply, that clears things up. It must have been something the dealer I bought it from did, because in my ownership it's always had this behaviour, and prior to the dealership's involvement the van was owned by a large national company that are very likely to have followed servicing guidelines closely. In my ownership I've only ever used VCDS to (rather frequently) reset it, though I think one time I might have used OBDeleven instead; regardless as I say it's behaved like this since I got it, so it doesn't seem likely that this is a factor.

Anyway, from how I use it, it probably makes more sense to use flexible intervals going forward. I've just done an oil change/service so today's date is fine for the most recent inspection. Thanks again.

Change the following channels in the proposed order:
  1. IDE00515 = good oil quality
  2. IDE00512 = 15000 km
  3. IDE00513 = 30000 km
  4. IDE00827 = 365 d
  5. IDE00514 = 730 d
  6. IDE03349 = 30000 km
  7. IDE03350 = 365 d
  8. IDE00510 = Adjust to Distance since Oil Change
  9. IDE00511 = Adjust to Time/Days since Oil Change
  10. IDE03351 = Adjust to Distance since Inspection
  11. IDE03352 = Adjust to Time/Days since Inspection
In rare case you may need to cycle the ignition between steps 1 and 2, in order for the cluster to properly enable the channels for step 2-5. Let us know if this worked, once done you should see "---" for the distance 'til next oil service, that is expected for ~500 km after the reset and will be re-calculated based on the values in IDE00517 & IDE00518 along the way.
