Hi,

I have an Audi TTRS MK2 2012 as a Japan import.

The digital speedometer is showing the correct speed but the analogue one is completely different. When the speed on digital is 35mph which is the correct rolling speed (compared to GPS speed), the analogue is showing 58/60mph.

This is very ODD as the 58/60MPH shown on analogue is actually the equivalent in kilometers at 35mph. (shown on digital). The speed in kilometers on the analogue speedometer is showing around 100kmph, or 58/60MPH when the car is actually running at 35mph which is correctly displayed on the digital. Hope it makes sense.

As I am in the UK, I need both in MPH, but only the digital is showing the correct speed.

Is there any coding in VCDS which can adjust this so the analogue MPH speed is matching the digital MPH speed?

Thank you.

Recoding imports to markets they were never supposed to be in, often results in odd behavior. As Spacewalker already requested, an Auto-Scan is mandatory in order for anybody to look into this.

Here you go.

I have also attached two pictures - one with the speedo in miles and one in kilometres, both showing different values on the analogue compared to digital. Digital display shows the real rolling speed on both examples. My daughter took the pictures for me whilst I was driving.

As you can see from the images, the digital value is correct and so is the needle position. It simply uses the mi/h scale for the km/h totally invalidating the actual km/h scale. In essence, the internal curve/map for the scale does not match the one for the country coding. There is nothing a diagnostic tool can do about that.

What I am not getting, you already have the dual unit scale in the speedometer which should be spot on with the Japan setting. Or is it not?

Hi Sebastian,

No, it's the same in Japan setting. Is it worth changing the instrument cluster? I know it's a small thing but I just want to needle to match the digital in both (miles and kilometers). I have changed the country coding to different ones and it makes no difference.

Yes, it does use the needle miles scale for km but that doesn't help in the UK. I'd prefer if it was the other way around.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks a lot

it seems is a SW issue
you can try code to ROW Australia 7 or 8
also check over ABS measure block what speed is right :)

The cluster is 8J0 920 931 F = MY 2013+ = 310 km/h, the proper mi/h cluster would be 8J0 920 981 F.

8J0 920 981 F is for standard TT, not for the RS VERSION, isn't it? The one for the RS VERSION for UK should be 8J0 920 980 G. This might fix it but (silly question), is the mileage stored in the cluster? My car is a very low mileage and if I buy a second hand cluster, I still want my mileage to show the current one. (Mileage: 60660km-37692mi)

If there was (such) a deviation (assuming the ESP determined speed isn't correct), the ECM would already throw DTC's due to a mismatch ECM maps i.e. engine speed & gear vs. expected vehicle speed. Though as usual checking doesn't hurt either. 😉

no no ... not this way
He complain speedo , not ABS / ESP
Cluster do speed conversion from CAN /ABS
and what speed is right ?
analog ?
digital ?
Digital in MPH ?

I've replaced the dials and all shows as it should. A but painful to calibrate the needles and managed to break a needle motor but I've got there in the end. Like you've said at the begining, there is no coding to fix this. Now I have both KM & MILES showing the correct speed.

Thanks for your support
