Hi, I'm having a major issue with fault code 00268, solenoid valve 6 (N93) 009 open or short to ground -MIL on. ( 2006 2.5 TDI multivan)
So far I have replaced the solenoid ( also checked the original for resistance- it is correct), checked resistance at the 14 pin plug on the side of the box, also correct at 6.8ohms, checked for continuity between the gearbox plug ( pins 13 and 14)and the gearbox control module ( to the plug), all correct, checked resistance at the GCM plug, 6.8ohms so again, correct.
Occasionally I can get the fault to clear only to select drive and it comes back on.
I'm now at a loss as to what to do next other than the GCM.
Are the gearbox control modules know to develop faults?
Next question, if i need to replace the GCM do I have to specify one for a multivan or would one of an alternative vehicle such as a beetle or toureg etc be suitable?

how are the pins ? sometime they need a bit of a twist to make a better contact ( in the wiring plug )

I've given the plugs a clean with contact cleaner, done some basic tests with a multimeter, I'm getting a resistance reading across the pins when I check at the gearbox control module plug which is suggesting all is good ( 6.8 ohms) correct range is supposed to be between 4 and 8 ohms.

Pins heat up and cool down..sometimes contact cleaner is not enough , i take the safer route and i twist the pins just a bit to ensure proper contact. But , your ecu might be also bad under load..so it s a 50/50 proposal

I've re checked contacts for continuity along with resistance, I cannot find any issues with any of the wiring, when I perform I diag check I'm repeatedly getting the same fault then occasionally it will clear only to return again

I've given the pins a slight twist...not made any difference unfortunately ☹️

Why not ohms out all the solenoids and compare the readings?

solenoid 1 should be between 10-16ohns, actual is 12.9ohms
solenoid 2 should be between 10-16ohms, actual is 12.6ohms
solenoid 3 should be between 4-8ohms, actual is 5.9ohms
solenoid 4 should be between 4-8ohms, actual is 5.8ohms
solenoid 5 should be between 4-8ohms, actual is 5.9ohms
solenoid 6 should be between 4-8ohms, actual is 5.7ohms
solenoid 9 should be between 4-8ohms, actual is 5.8ohms
solenoid 10 should be between 4-8ohms actual is 5.9ohms

From my checks they are all well within the tolerances (all measured from the gearbox control module plug) so again it's proving there is continuity in the wiring etc

I agree but I am assuming this is with the engien and transmission being cold. Resistance goes up as temperature goes up so that may be a factor.

Agreed...but the error code is showing continuously whether hot or cold. ( checked this morning first thing, it's cold but the code won't clear at all now)
The No6 solenoid I have replaced I have removed from another transmission of unknown origins, it would be rather strange to have the same fault showing ( but not impossible). My thoughts process now is to look at purchasing a new solenoid ( not sure just where from...I'm in Spain) and/or obtaining a gearbox control module to try that, thoughts?

Open or short to ground could be wiring problem as well. Best to check resistance of wiring and all connections.

I've checked the gearbox internal wiring, full continuity with no resistance, likewise I've checked from the gearbox plug to the GCM plug, again full continuity on minimal resistance ( milliohms as you'd expect over about 80cm/2' of wire). Is there anywhere else I could look at for wiring

Ok, I have finally received a new solenoid ( as previous replacement was of an unknown entity), this has been fitted and the 'open or short to ground' has cleared but.....
I am now getting-
00268 solenoid valve 6 ( N93)
012 - Electrical fault in circuit -MIL on

so the next question ( as I've gone through the harness between the solenoid and the transmission control module plug, with a fine tooth comb)
Would the diagnostic indicate if it was something to do with the can bus signal or not

Discovered something new today, I can clear the fault code, drive the vehicle for 10-15mins before the fault re-appears so sounds temperature related, it was mentioned earlier in the post about the pins heating up etc so I'll take a closer look at them
