This information is only for the BMS_48V_LiIon variants. Connect to address 61 for Battery Regulation and verify the data in Component field:
If BMS_48V_LiIon is not shown in the Component field, this information may not apply.
1) The information in section 1 assumes the 48V system is in working order, but needs to be disconnected for repairs to be performed.
The 48 volt electrical system must be de-energized with a scan tool prior to any work on the 12V and/or 48V volt electrical system.
Prerequisites:
Verify current status of the 48V electrical system:

[Adaptation -10]
Note: some systems may require Security Access 20103 to enable adaptation.
[SAVE]
This should now open the contractor and the 48V system should be de-energized.
Verify the current status of the 48V electrical system with the [19-CAN Gateway] (see above).
To energize 48V system:

[19-CAN Gateway]
[Adaptation -10]
Note: some systems may require Security Access 20103 to enable adaptation.
[SAVE]
This should now close the contractor and the 48V system should be energized.
Verify the current status of the 48V electrical system with the [19-CAN Gateway] (see above).
2) The information in section 2 assumes the 48V system Alternator (Address CC-Starter-Generator/C29) failed.
After replacement of the faulty alternator (Address CC) needs to be coded.
This is an example of a faulty alternator prior to replacement:
The coding from the original Auto-Scan prior to repairs should be used to code the new unit. VCDS offers Long Coding Helper information if the old one reported Cannot be reached.
The 12V battery needs to be in good condition prior to moving forward after alternator replacement. If the 12V battery needed to be replaced make sure to adapt the replacement in Address 19-CAN Gateway using the Adaptation channels:
In most cases the 48V system cannot charge correctly after repairs due to the initial alternator failure due to low SoC. When this happens manual charging is needed. See below.
Manually charging 48V system:
Plan on charging for at least 2 hours minimum.
