Falcon 9 Booster 1068 1058 -- which on its first launch brought human spaceflight back to the USA in May of 2020 -- stuck its 19th landing the other day.

But about a day and a half later, high winds and waves toppled it on the drone-ship on its way back to Port Canaveral. :(

Incredible re-entry footage:


At about 11:45 into this video (T+00:57:10) when the major burn-through on the forward flaps started, I was thinking there would be no way they could possibly make a controlled landing. Somebody on X made a 'tis just a flesh wound" meme. But it turned out to be a "Don't Panic!" moment. Later, you can see that heavily damaged flap still moving, doing its job! I'm in awe how robust this thing is because they managed to do the flip and a soft touch-down despite all that!

FWIW, I think the problems with the burn-through on that flap started much earlier. Look at 3:39 in the video (T+00:49:04). That hot spot doesn't seem like it should be there?
