Well there were two reasons to begin withWhy just not buy an used oem shark fin with gps antenna? Easy swap and also problem solved
Those 3rd party antennas are a bit iffy
1. I wanted to test and confirm that this was definitely the problem and it was cheaper, much more straightforward and quicker to test with a third party GPS antenna. Now I could not agree more that although the problem has been fixed but the map is definitely iffy as you have said. The position on the map is moves more wavelike rather than a straight line.
2. Looking on eBay I was struggling to find the correct replacement part as I came across two different variants. One which seems easier has plugin cables which can be plugged in and out easily like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/187128283279. The other variant has cables attached to it which run all the way back to the radio unit and will require removing all of the headliner like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226347970847. Is there any way to find out which one is the correct one for my car? I may be able to give it a try if I know for sure about the correct part. I did find a helpful YouTube video
