MK5 Rabbit PODs Reset Issue

Hey, everyone. I have an 08 Rabbit that needed the PODs module replaced. My issue is that the Basic Settings screen looks completely different than any video or thread I've read. There is no MAS00041 Resetting seat occupied recognition nor MAS00042-Seat occupied recognition serial number option.

This is NOT what the Basic Settings screen looks like.

Does this sound familiar to anyone and what are the steps I should take to reset the module?

I'll have to do this tomorrow, as the car is at work.
In the mean time, can you say why I'm not getting the screen as described?
I read section 17 of the manual, but I'm not understanding how you get from the screen on 17-A to the one on 17-B.

The first screen-shot you posted is from an Airbag module that uses the newer UDS protocol. The second is from an older pre-UDS one.

Understood.
With this being known, what would be the workflow to reset the module (using the screen provided)?
Just trying to get this worked out ASAP as I need this completed before it can go to the dealer, then to an auto shop, then to emissions, all before I can get it registered. I've been borrowing a vehicle and I've stretched the favor a bit thin.

I have been both successful and unsuccessful with this walkthrough.
It took 3 tries before the dash light disappeared. About 1min after the 3rd try, after starting the car, the light reappeared.
Maybe a dozen more tries and all unsuccessful.

A couple questions:
For the "Prerequisites" under "Special Procedures", it lists "no faults in the system". I tried clearing the codes after each reset, but they always reappeared; even on the attempt which seemed successful (albeit for ~1min). Am I doing it correctly?

I had the vehicle at VW and my diag report states:
116322 air bag light is on. has fault 2511. ran test plan and tested wiring from air bag control module to right front seat occupant sensor, found ok. test plan indicated the j=706 pods module is the cause.

With this being said, is all the focus on the module?
What would be the reason for it to appear to reset and, then, fault almost immediately?

You've got a comms issue, so no amount of reset attempts is going to fix it. You can't just go by the error number, you also have to go by the description. This one doesn't say "No or incorrect basic setting/adaption", which could be solved by running Basic Settings, this one says "No Signal/Communication", which cannot be solved by running Basic Settings.

Either you've got a bad connection (likely, and can be either unplugged, loosely plugged, or bad wiring), or you've got a faulty module (unlikely, but possible).

Also, get a charger on that battery!

Thank you for the clarification on the comms reading/code

Let's assume the harness is firmly seated in the module and the harness from it to the under-seat connection is also correctly seated as well as intact. Could this exact error/fault still exist? If so, where do I focus my attention to? I ask because the VW dealer's diag report now has me confused. I'm not one to loosely seat a connector (designing and building/assembling industrial controls is part of my job) and it would seem I now must double-check the dealer's work (which cost me >$400 to have performed).

Lack of communication is pretty self-explanatory. Either the module doesn't have power or the comms lines aren't connected all the way through (loose pins, broken wire, etc.), or both. No matter what, you're going to have to grab a wiring diagram <--- clickable link and start tracing/testing wires.

If all wiring is good, you get the appropriate voltage between the power and ground pins, all the comms wires have good continuity, etc., then the dealer is probably correct that the module itself is defective.

Thank you, gentlemen. I believe it is all sorted and rests solely on a dishonest VW tech. The #4 fuse was not only blown, but there was enough corrosion on the supply side that even with a fresh fuse there was no continuity to 12V+. Also, there was no continuity to the T10e harness and, subsequently through to the PODS module. I cleaned everything and checked continuity to all connectors off the PODS T18 harness. Original Occupancy module reset, adapted, and still in the vehicle.

Not sure why the scan said the batt was @11.8V. I read it with a Fluke 179 and it was 12.7V at rest, 12.58V ACC, and >14V running (had me worried there as it's a 3wk old AGM Platinum batt).

Sounds like excessive resistance somewhere between the battery and the diagnostic socket.

Makes sense.

On a slightly different note, but same topic. I emailed the service manager, to get a better understanding of what the airbag certification encompasses. His exact words were:

For the airbag certification we would simply look at the airbag system only & verify the system has no faults active or in history

I cleared the codes when I did the module reset/adaption. Are these going to show or otherwise cause an issue when they do their scan for the above? If so, is there anything I can do with the VCDS tool in my possession to get my system to a status that will pass said certification?

Post up a new, fresh auto scan so we can see the current state of the car. Without that, we can only guess and throw darts in the dark.

Should I go through and clear the faults in the other systems, to see what pops back up?
Will I need the Security Code, similar to accessing the Airbag 15 system, for the others?
