Hi, I am having trouble tracing the no signal issue with this beetle. Please see auto scan below. The actuator error is not a concern at this time and I know what to do to fix it.

Thanks

Hi Uwe,

I visually inspected the wiring harness under the seat and the connector. I don't see any signs of damaged wiring or the connector being damaged. I did check for power and one of the wires had power.

Does anyone one have the values for each lead on the J706 connector so I know what I'm looking for?

Thanks

The cost of access to wiring diagrams is low. Please go to erWin to get access for a day for $35 and download all the stuff for your car onto a flash drive.

Good advice there but
I did check for power and one of the wires had power.
Check for ground while you were there ??

I have a feeling that may have a data line(s) - Linbus possibly ?

Those seat Recognition sensors fail for fun !!

Dr Sheldon, yes I will certainly check for ground. Thanks!!

02511 - Control Module for Seat Occupied Recognition (J706) 004 - No Signal/Communication
Does this error appear immediately after deletion? Or does the error have to be preceded by some typical situation?

Immediately after clearing the code. When I swap out seats, I always strip out anything that can be used later. I have a stash of J706 modules with the wiring harness and I thought perhaps this car had a bad cable harness under the seat but after swapping out modules and harnesses I figured I better check the wiring going back from the seat to the car itself. It's not the first time I have encountered this problem but this is the first time I get "no signal/communication" error. I also noticed that when I enter the security code it won't allow me to enter "basic", it remains grayed out.

I have a feeling that there is no space for basic settings in module 15. The shortcut is not the reason.

Focus on the connectors that are under the seat. That is, not the ones under the floor carpet. The connector under the seat is best bridged with a 100% electrically conductive connection. Or have you already done this?

No, I haven't tried that yet but it makes sense. Bridge it by hard wiring it or replace the connector?

Why not check continuity through the connector before lashing it up ? Those wires carry minimal current !

Yes, makes sense. I will connect it to the harness and check for continuity from the car side to the module side. I believe one wire had battery voltage so I will check to see if the voltage passes through to the module side. I will let you know in a couple days when I get a chance to work on it again.

Thanks!

Ok. This is what I know. There is continuity across the connector and I even checked the harness from under the seat for continuity. There appears to be no broken wires. I even tried a spare seat I had and got the same results. So two different seats, with two different harnesses and even swapping out modules gave me the same results. I'm going to check the wiring under the carpet.

You have gained access to both the Module and the Recognition Sensor ?

Why not check continuity from the Module Connector through to the Sensor Connector ??

And then Drag test the female sockets in the connectors ? They should have sufficient tension to "Grab" the Male Pins.

So two different seats, with two different harnesses and even swapping out modules gave me the same results.
Swapping Old Modules & Sensors about is not a "Test" - Hence drawing conclusions from that exercise is not a worthwhile diagnosis !!

Yeah, I had a feeling you would say that about swapping out parts. Ok, I will do further tests through the connectors.

What I suggested was

check continuity from the Module Connector through to the Sensor Connector ??

And then Drag test the female sockets in the connectors ? They should have sufficient tension to "Grab" the Male Pins.

That is End to End testing !!
