Golf 6 central electronic module (BCM)

Hi Guys,

Raw newbie here, although I have been lurking and reading related posts a lot.

Used my new Hex V2 to scan my 2011 golf 6 1.6tdi.

I’m trying to diagnose a boot lock fault (here we go again!) I understand that even though module 46 convenience is listed, it’s not fitted to the car. It’s module 9 central electronics or BCM.

Having failed to connect to 46 I assume that’s the case.

Module 9 had no stored or active DTC’s but the boot lock won’t function from ANY input. Be it the handle, key fobs or drivers door button.

So would the module show codes if it was knackered, would it show a broken wire if it couldn’t reach the switches or actuator itself?

I’ve peeled back the rubber boot seal over the body to hatch loom and the wires all appear intact at least externally.

Anything else I can do with VCDS to diagnose this issue? I don’t want to start messing with looms and modules without knowing which is at fault. Everything else works on the central electronics. Just the boot latch, which has been replaced with a genuine brand new part, so I’m ruling out the actuator and switch assembly.

My multimeter reads no voltage at the boot handle plug or pins 1-4 on the actuator plug even when the switch and or key are operated. Although the lock may have been in the open position at this point.

Why can’t these things be simple?!

Please post a complete Auto-Scan so people can see how the car is equipped and configured, and what exactly fault code are present.

Please bear in mind, the car battery was low voltage aabd trickle charging, the fuel lines were full of air prior to bleeding, there are numerous faults (the car wwas £600!)

Trying to just get the boot working! I'll work through everything else as I go.

Any ideas why the module is throwing no codes for the boot lock but it's inoperative via keyfob, handle and driver's door button.

I can't see damaged wiring in the rubber boot, brand new Febi Bilstein boot lock unit fitted, matching part number to original.

Is there anything I can do with VCDS to further diagnose the issue? Like a live scan of module 9 to see if the various input and output signals are there?

Or is the unit coded incorrectly? The car is a bit of a shed, it wouldn't surprise me if the last owner had the thing in pieces.

There are some rear lid variant bits in Byte 1, but I don't know what's correct for this particular car. More rear lid stuff in Byte 2, but again, I don't know what's correct for this car.

Thanks Uwe, I’ll scan the module again and see if I can test it in any more depth.

After that I suppose I’m looking at a long test lead and going pin to pin to test the plugs and wiring harness! Deep joy awaits!

Hi guys, I thought I’d return to conclude this episode incase anyone is searching for the same issue down the line.

Thankfully, BCM module 9 seems to be behaving but in the golf mk6 I’ve had multiple hardware and wiring failures making diagnosis a nightmare.

The wiring from the VW boot lid (trunk) handle had failed at the switch output pin and looked a little burned out inside. Needed some TLC!

The switch itself was also full of crud (ancient water ingress?!) and was an open circuit too.

I also had the OG of boot lock failures, a dud actuator.

None of this threw any codes, so sometimes it’s an old skool process of elimination.

Thanks to all for the input. Hopefully the new boot handle will just work and I can move onto the next minor fault!

Working on it! I’m trying to cut down on forum ‘lurking’ I now only frequent 2 or 3, the rehab is kinda working.

Besides, now I have to get involved and stay illuminated, I have a cable and software that does more than I fully understand

All I know is that my £600 golf is getting all the faults ironed out because it can tell me what’s up!
