I have a 2017 C7 Quattro. I am thinking about getting wheel spacers for the look. Is this a bad idea?

I've run / used them for years. Your ok, but you must be conscientious when gathering the spacers and bolts.
The set up also depends on how much spacing you wish to do: 5 or 10mm is typical (with the hub centric ring cast into the spacer, 10mm has the "lip" as the 5mm will be completely "flat"). The hub centric lip or ring built into the spacer is usually very important so that the wheel spins true and you don't get any high speed vibrations. Audi suspensions are notoriously sensitive because of all the isolating bushings/rubber. So, like anything else, you have to want it and be willing to adjust or play with it a bit - sometimes.
If you are going to go , say 20mm , then this requires a bolt on spacer to the hub, then your wheel bolts to it via your original length wheel bolts. These work out very well but are costly and usually your not looking for 20mm or more spacing.
The bolts: there is a cup shape bolt (VW/Audi genuine oem usually "BALL") Like a "U" and there is a "V" shape taper bolt "Conical" (usually aftermarket wheels have the "V" or tapered bolt and the matching surface or shape on the wheel. Look up the difference to get the idea I'm referring to here.
The length is also a consideration: if you place 10mm spacer for example, you will need 10mm longer bolts. You want 7-8 full turns of thread before the bolt tightens on the wheel. To short, is unsafe and to long may rub on the back side of the hub (you can't see this area) so spin or rotate tire to check or verify.
Fitting the spacers: This is the conscientious part, and is not as simple as it sounds as you don't want to take anything for granted here. The spacer must fit passively to the hub and seat fully ; no pinching or forcing of the spacer to the hub. If it fits the hub, now take the spacer by hand and see if it fits passively to the inside of the wheel. Very minor resistance in rotation or placement is ok, but if you need to force or "sandwich" them together for it to seat when you bolt on the wheel, that's not a good sign and you will most likely get vibration in the steering wheel.
H&R makes a good spacer but $$ ; once you get the idea of what is going on, you can experiment with some ebay brands/spacers (half the cost usually). But beware, it can be hit or miss regarding the quality of fitment.
I agree, it does look better, but be prepared for more splash on the side of the car . The handling is more responsive because of the widened track also. Its not that challenging, just watch what you are doing and follow what was pointed out above and you should be fine.

When pissing around with suspension geometry, it's important to know what you're doing.
Spacers give you parkinglot points while affecting handling due to scrub radius, and increasing loads on your suspension components, etc.

But then I'm the kinda guy who put 17" rims on his Golf R because while the stock 19s might look cool, they're excessively heavy and saving 5 lbs of unsprung weight on each corner and adding an inch of sidewall makes for better function.
As for wheel spacers, there is a vehicle I'm looking to put them on: A small tractor with a back-hoe. That dang this is just too tippy and we've already capsized it once. So function, not appearance, and it's a solid axle, I don't think it will increase the torsional load on the wheel bearings.
