Hi -

I've just been to check out a car I'm looking to buy, plugged it in and got the scan below, questions -

1- is the only way to scan this car with a latest interface i.e. the one I have is useless on this age vehicle? It works well on my MK6 Golf

2 - I know it isn't the latest version software but will this make a difference?

3 - Can I get any useful information from this scan, I can see the modules with faults but that's as far as the useful scan goes, can I use these fault codes on the Wiki here?


Any pointers much appreciated as I don't want the car to sell but can't/won't part with cash until I know what the faults are!!

That there is in your hands - You need a scan tool suitable for that vehicle and are choosing not to own one !!

Alternative is to borrow or rent a man who has one ?

We've shouted it far and wide, on the download page, in the installation instructions, and so on, that legacy interfaces like your HEX+CAN have compatibility problems with some cars starting around MY 2016 and aren't supported at all on MY 2019 and newer. The HEX+CAN was introduced in 2004 and in early 2016, when the 16 kB of space it has for firmware was full, no further compatibility enhancements were possible.

"Latest"? No. But a current one. Any HEX-NET (introduced in 2014) or HEX-V2 (that replaced the HEX+CAN at the end of 2016) will work. And discounted, trade-in upgrades are available.
