ABS Related DTCs (2011 VW GTI DSG) (MK60EC1)

I hope i did this right, any input will help me greatly. My sisters car gave me so many DTC'S, almost all of which make me wrap my head around something ABS related. Car is on the lift right now at my shop and heres what i decided to do before making an account here to share to the public;

wheels off to inspect wheel speed sensors for any noticeable damage, nothing notable/ no physical damages as far as i can see without taking the plastics further apart

visually inspect the module itself and make sure everything is snug as should, no leaks.

While i was under the car i checked to make sure nothing related to hard abs lines were leaking, all dry as a bone.

i decided to come here because i read a lot of stuff online and was mislead because of the amount of codes i had in comparison to other post i read, i just decided to give this a try and hear from individuals who have had similar issues/ hear from those who are experienced and knowledgeable with reading a full scan and being able to give me an idea where to start.

Most likely faulty... but before the ABS module is placed, you will want to verify powers/grounds are to factory design... no voltage drop under load issues. I've seen a decent number of cases over the years were people think they have a bad module, replace it, same DTCs... and it was loose fuse or crusty ground. Now if powers/grounds don't have any kind of voltage drop issue then replace the ABS module.

However, this is not the typical fail. Most common is no communications at all or "ABS Operation Implausible",

That said, "Control Module - Electrical Error - Defective" is pretty explicit.

I cannot thank you enough for giving me an idea as to where to start, i did some research last night when I was doing the scan and read something similar in regards to checking powers/grounds at the plug that connects to the module. I need to do further research as to what pins to check again (If you have an idea as to finding accurate diagram/schematic of the plug and pins to check that would be greatly appreciated) I already checked my basics in regards to the "fuse box" locations (engine compartment and driver side panel @door jam and everything checked out well (with a multimeter/test light)

Now I'm curious, if everything checks out well as far as my findings at the plug itself, do i need a whole assembly (pump/module) together? I thought I read somewhere that the pump/module can be separated, but if that can "open a can of worms" I don't need in my life, i don't mind settling for a new/used module with pump integrated and ready to install.

(reminded me, thank you for the pinned link in regards to new/used modules and to make an informative purchased based on as much as i can grasp on, part numbers, revisions, etc etc)

It is possible with some ABS systems. The way this generally works, VW/Audi will only sell the ABS as a unit (module, valve block, pump). But if a given class of ABS units has a very high rate of failure, then all of a sudden VW/Audi will start selling just the module. The MK60EC1 class of ABS modules do have a higher than normal failure rate so it is common to be able to purchase just the electronics part and swap it over to the original valve block / pump assembly. Not really a big issue unless you skip leg day at the gym.

The 2 real issues you need to worry about when swapping out the ABS.... not cross threading the fittings in the valve block and doing a good bleed on the hydrolics (hint, you won't use VCDS for that). Those 2 concerns hold true for any ABS module swap on any car, nothing new.

With key off, plug to ABS Module disconnected, testing with test light;

Pin 31/32 (colors red/white and red/yellow)have power as they should (I believe) and pin 47 brown is constant ground as should to my understanding.

My pin 8 black/purple wire has powered when "key on" power was applied, but realized when I turn the key off it has ground

I wanted to ask and see if this is normal or concerning? (In regards to the ground I found @pin 8 on that wire after I shut ignition power off)

If this is normal behavior, that makes me feel better about any other gimmicks that can be going on.

Is it worth testing anything related to the Pin 35 (TPMS signal) or Pin 39(ESP sensor signal)?

Should any of the wheel speed sensor wires (Pin 33/34, 36/37, 42/43, 45/46) be addressed in regards to checking the grounds/signal wires?

Should I address anything in regards to the CAN high signal (Pin 12) or CAN low signal (Pin 13)

How would i go about checking for signals either way??? This will be a first for me, I have experience messing simple 12v systems and checking power/grounds but not super keen with these very smart cars. Most signals I mess with in my field of work are usually float switches for fuel tanks on boat applications Wishing you all have a blessed day, glad I registered and had the pleasure to hear back from you guys

T47c/1 and T47c/32 are constant power (Terminal 30) and should carry load (light up a test light).
T47c/47 is ground (Terminal 31) and again should carry load (light up a test light)

Those are the 3 wires I would want to verify as good. If so, replace ABS module.

T47c/8 is the ignition on signal (Terminal 15), wakes up the ABS module.
I doubt there are issues with the wiring for the CAN, T47c/12 and T47c/14, no DTCs for CAN issues and the ABS module does talk.

You may or may not have actual wheel speed sensor issues, but until you know your ABS module or powers/ground are all good, that is a possible issue for future you. Current you is worried about powers/grounds, then the fun and games of replacing the ABS module when very near future you verifies powers/ground are good.
