No Ignition, Skoda Kodiaq keyless Start, after Accident

Hi guys, I know you probably hate accident damage related questions (and this is my first) but I've just picked up a 2020 Skoda kodiaq 2.0 TDI DSG.

Front end damage, airbags deployed, but can't communicate with the OBD because the ignition is not coming on. There is power to the main and secondary fuseboxes, but the keyless ignition isn't lighting up when I press the start button.

I've been trying to Google if they have a pyro fuse or interia cutoff but drawing a blank.

Do any of you guys know if there is any master crash shut down system on these?

I can see the mileage and door open etc on the dash and the media unit works

Try this, turn on hazard lights. That should activate the CAN bus and you should be able to connect to the gateway.

Other option is to connect with dealer tool online and remotely turn ignition on to the car

Third one is that put the key on the right side of the steering column where the IMMO reader is. You can see the etched diagram of key and waves. On that spot. Keep the key there and press start button

I have a mate with fully authorised genuine ODIS, so he's my last resort if I can't find the issue

It's usually more than the hazard lights, you usually have to do the following combination to "wake up" the immobilizer-related modules and the CAN gateway:

• Hazard lights
• High beams
• Hold brake pedal

Usually the hazards are enough. That is how VW officially guides as well

But no harm in doing the additional actions as well

Took a scan with the hazards on, a few systems are talking but a lot still are not. I've checked the kessy fuses, and there is power to the main lines coming off the SA fuses (main rad fan feed is blown but that shouldn't affect startup) / and there is power into SB fuse box and power going to the SC fuse box. I cant see any reference to a pyro fuse on the wiring diagrams i've looked at (not mentioned in the airbag system) so even though ebay lists them for the kodiaq, i dont think its got one and cant see it anywhere on the main battery lines.

It csan read the kessy system and reports no fault found oddly

There is some wiring damage on the engine loom so I'll get that repaired as it might be a dependency for the kessy system firing up. will report back after the weekend when ive done some more work on it. Here's the VCDS scan so far:

What is the part number and in which section it's mentioned? I have never encountered a pyro fuse on these cars and I've worked with quite a few of them. So for me this is new as well that there's one and I would be very interested to find it as well.

ElsaWin was a dealer-only piece of software that doesn't exist outside of dealerships except via piracy. It's also discontinued, and I don't believe a vehicle datapack was ever put together for 2021 vehicles, so I doubt you're going to get any sort of reliable information.

Simple take out one connector from DSG for example, and measure KL30, Kl15 to see which one is gone
then track it
then track CAN , just to see if is going to GW , ecu , abs use this same CAN bus , I am almost sure Kl30 also for engine bay is this same


then swap GW if p[ower are ok, to see if they start communicate

If you meant me, I never wrote about crash-damaged cars. I've done two which have been in crash damage and neither had a pyro-fuse. I was mainly commenting on that.

Looks like the OPs car has had front-end collision damage, so most likely some of the voltage feeds are damaged that come from the engine bay fuse box (which is the main voltage distribution as well). So you're right that measuring what is coming to GW is correct.

I don't think GW itself is damaged. There is crash shutdown bit that activates but that can be cleared from GW without really any bigger hurdle. And that does not impact on ignition behaviour.
