Hi there,

So just curios, are you looking for some high performance ignition coils?

Personally, the Audi ignition coils are fine, I have a 2013 Allroad with an APR Stg 1 tune and have had no issues.
- I have built a many 1.8L Stg.3 big turbo engines, using stock coils.
- Also built a 600hp S5 with a TTS super charger with stock ignition coils.

There maybe 'performance' coils out there, but honestly? are they really going to make any noticeable or measurable differences?

Hope this helps,

drpeter

Ok thanks,

I keep finding misfires and wondered if the ignition could I got from O'Reilly's were just poor quality. I replaced them just as a maintenance job as I'm at 78,000 miles now my motor I'm only after I did plugs and coils that I start getting misfires, after moving the coils around it would appear that two out of four of them were not working well. After more than a week of troubleshooting I found the two culprits and replace them with warranty replacements. Now every few weeks or so I'm finding a misfire when I scan with my vcds. My car still runs a little rough and is really bad when I put it in reverse. I've replace both of the O2 sensors and the mass air flow sensor. I saw a small improvements after each sensor replacement. I can't find any vacuum leaks anywhere. My car runs really good but just seems a little rough. I'm not sure what my next step should be as far as trying to improve my idle.

First thing is stop replacing parts without evidence that the Part has failed !!

Also Stop buying parts from anywhere but the dealer !! Forget all that OEM bullshit mumbo jumbo - the world is full of cheap shit counterfeit parts.

Don't think so - with good reason - That is just you and wishful thinking !!

No way you noticed anything after replacing the o2 sensors - especially S2 !!

As for improving Idle, with the lack of a DTC or a PID in MVB's, you need to be looking at Ignition primaries, secondaries, spark durations for clues as a starting point.

Thanks for the advise, you're obviously know more than I do, so why do you start dropping three character words that I have no idea what you are referring to??

I don't have any diagnostic trouble codes, I have a 2017 2.0 and a 2021 Q5 with the 2.0. from what I can tell and what I read they are generally the same motor but my Q5 runs very smooth and I'm trying to figure out how I might get my 2017 A6 more like that. We don't buy a cheap parts I try to put quality parts in and use the highest quality of what I can find. However I also like to learn and I like working on my car so hopefully advice is always welcomed.

If I post a scan could someone diagnose the PID just by looking at it?

Yes - But you miss my point !!
Counterfeit Shit parts can also be very nicely packaged and sold at retail money !!

So cheap means nothing, neither does expensive. The supply chain is so corrupt that you cannot now trust parts coming from "trusted" retailers !

MVB Measured Value Blocks in VCDS - Also known as Live Data, Live Reading, Actual Values ............

OBD-II PIDs (Parameter IDs) are codes used to request data from a vehicle, they are used as a diagnostic tool.

DTC - Diagnostic Trouble Code - Fault Code

You will find that advice, good advice, is here in abundance !!

That would be because I studied this shit to Masters Level and beyond. Each to our own ?

To me it seems that you have taken 4 perfectly good Coil Packs and put 4 shit ones in place !!

Now you would want me to believe 2 were bad so you got warranty replacements ?? You are Mad !! All 4 are SHIT - All made in the same shit shop, shit materials, shit QC and sold from the same shit <guess>

Options:
1. Put the old ones back in
2. Get 4 Genuine from the Audi Dealer - Pay the Price
3. Get 4 used but genuine from a scrap car - Still better than the scrap for sale at "reputable" sellers.

The alternative is :
you need to be looking at Ignition primaries, secondaries, spark durations upstream o2 "RAW" measurements for clues as a starting point.

I guess that the latter will be a ballache for you !

I would not trust coils for a VAG engine from an American auto-parts chain store.

You don't have to buy them from a dealer, but at least buy them from a reputable vendor that specializes in VAG parts.

This is also a verified seller (by me) and they sell you parts at wholesale ; just compare to other dealers and you'll see about a 20% difference or more!
They are actually a Audi dealer in Oregon.

I did some price checking regarding post #12 (Audioemparts.com) and it looks like this is a on-line only arm of Henderson Audi in NV. Very similar to AudiUSAparts.com. ; no phone number , email only . They most likely save on staff costs (?) and time , thus on-line only and greater discounts.

For example, if you go to Henderson Audi's Dealer landing page and look up a part from there, you'll be shocked at the price difference between the dealer site and the on-line site.

Anyway, Audioemparts prices are actually 2% less than audiusaparts site!

Lesson here is:
I replaced them just as a maintenance job as I'm at 78,000 miles
Do not replace a part unless you have absolute evidence that it is faulty !!

Get your head around this !!! One reason that VM's went from a single coil to these "Pencil Coils" was that if one failed the engine would not fail. Worst way you would get a Single Cylinder Misfire - No Big Deal ?

A 747 Jet liner can run on 3 out of four till it runs out of fuel !!!!

Coils are not, or should not be, considered a Maintenance thing !! No One does it !!

Which idiot put that in your head ??

Moving on. Let us not get carried away.

You have not bought and fitted Genuine Coils hence not confirmed the fix.
