Resolved Golf MK7 2013 tow bar retrofit -> ACC ERROR & Trailer always detected

Hello everyone,

This is my first thread on this forum and i hope you will be able to help me

So i retrofited an used oem retractable tow hitch with the used calculator rev F
I wired everything with the kufatec harness for this rev of calculator and everything is being powered as it should, the led in the trunk is working (green when the tow is hidden or deployed and red when it's dangling)

My golf is from 2013 so the oem calculator installed from factory was a rev A because rev B appeared in mid 2014 when they changed the ground system so i hope the more recent calculator is compatible.

I coded every calculator related to the trailer (trailer detection activated or things like that)

So when i plugged on my battery back and turned on the car, it was a christmas tree, i turned the steering wheel side to side and made a kick drive, everything turned off except the ACC and the trailer error which say "check the towing system" and after a message for every trailer light malfunctionning even if i dont have a trailer plugged in.

So my first problem is that the calculator always think i have a trailer hooked because it hide me the back sensor when i'm in reverse and show me a trailer even if the trailer hitch is retracted...

And secondly my ACC isn't working at all and i cant even use the cruise control

Well, I have an RVC it's a lowline and dont have a calculator for it I think but I have one.

For the wiring, I re checked the 4 wires I connected to the BCM and following the Kufatec sheets it's ok, do I need to check if their informations is correct ?

On many forums I've visted over the years problems with incorrect wiring information from Kufactec has been a factor, so yes check the wiring yourself against a wiring diagram (that's a link).

Well from what i've found, i've already connected the 4 wires which are underlined in the picture below

But this wiring diagram is for the rev A calculator so is this different for rev from B to N ? I'm not really good at reading diagrams...

Oh god i have it i think...

I was to sleepy to notice but Kufatec say you have to connect the stop light control to pin 58 in plug C, correct
Clip 15 contact ??? to pin 14 in plug A, correct

Can high pin 16 plug A -> WRONG ! It's in plug C following the wiring diragram i sent before
And CAN low pin 17 plug >A -> Wrong too, it's in plug C also

And correct me if i'm wrong but the plug C is the closest one and the plug A is the farrest one

I really hope this is my problem but i'm really disappointed of this seller, 114€ for a wire set and a false notice... The fuses are also wrong for the calculators with revision B and later, well what a mess...

I keep you informed, but i think i'll have to buy connector to fit in the plug C for the true CAN positions because there is no cable in pin 17 plug C but in pin 16 there is a purple wire. I don't know what it can be

Well i don't understand, the wirings diagrams i found are pretty contradictory as you can see, for the BCM (J519) the CAN high and low connections are in the plug A pin 16 and 17 as Kufatec say

But in the wiring diagram for the trailer (J345) they are say we have to connect them to the plug C, and as i can see it is not meen for that

I don’t think there’s an issue with the CAN because the module is detected.

For some reason module thinks there’s a trailer connected because it’s complaining about the trailer lights.

So check grounding that it’s correct. Something is shorting somewhere

Ok so i have somes news,

To begin, the 3 grounds of the trailer plug are correct (0.3 Ω each) and the ground for the calculator is 0.3 Ω too.

After that, we checked the the A T24 plug of the trailer wiring to see if everything was correctly placed, and it was.

After that we tested the continuity but we found out that somes wires have a high resistance between them as you can see in the picture below

For exemple the pin 1 and 2 in the trailer plug have a resistance of 20 MΩ between them

So what do you think about this ? Every wire should be independant no ? Like the the pin 9 which dont have any resistance between any others pins (we have disconnected the grounds so that's normal if there is 0 for the 3 grounds)

And we tried every light with a test light and noticed right indicators and some others didn't work, so we thought about the calculator and i opened it to check if i can see something, and what was my surprise when i figured out that it has been flooded...

So i think the calculator is dead and i'll buy a new one hoping it will solve my problems, do i need to have a certain revision ? Mine was an "F", or can i look for a newer one so maybe it will have less "bugs" or somes new features
For the Golf MK7, i can have a revision B, C ,D ,F ,G ,H ,K ,M I think


And about the plug wiring what are your thought ? Do i need to re do it ? Is there maybe some water in the plug which make interferences ? Is there a risk to burn the new calculator if there is somes interferences in the plug ?

Buy the same one. Higher index does not necessarily mean it's better. In many cases it's a different part and not suitable for your car.

The module was clearly removed due to it being faulty due to the corrosion present and then sold on to you as an unsuspecting buyer. I would try to get my money back if possible

The cheapest calculator i've found is a H index and from what i've found on ETKA and on Kufatec, it should be compatible.
On ETKA it only show the index N which is the latest and it is also sold buy Kufatec

I don't see at the moment any problems with the trailer module wiring towards the car as no other module is complaining about it. The module from socket wiring it complains but that we already now know is due to fubar module.

For the modules, I would not trust what Kufatect says here as it's wiring they state compatibility against modules. A module is till 2014 and N is from 2014 onwards. If you click at A does it say it's superceded by module x? If yes, then you know it's outdated and you can get basically any higher index module. (up till N)
