Hi everyone.
I'm looking for some guidance on this please.
I've owned my 2014 Passat TDI for several years. I've only really had one issue with it until now. The original issue was related to the MAP sensor. It had became fouled with gunk from an intercooler that needed to be cleaned out. Once the intercooler was cleaned and the sensor replaced the car was OK until now. This issue was only about a year ago.
I am not a mechanic but do know my way around vehicles. I am not super familiar with how turbos work, but have owned diesel tractors - so I do understand their basics.
I have also owned VCDS for a couple years. I do know the basics of how to operate the software but am by no means an expert with it.
I feel I need to mention that the car did a regeneration / clean cycle the night before the issues started. The car started like normal the following morning, but once it got up to speed the check engine and engine management lights came on. The car went into limp mode and the turbo went off line. I pulled the original MAP sensor and inspected the intercooler. The sensor and intercooler appeared clean. I probed the intercooler with a camera and do not see any build up or restrictions.
The codes it is listing are:
P1592 - implausible signal
P0238 - boost sensor signal too high
P0113 - intake air temp
P0234 - turbo overboost condition
I went ahead and purchased a new MAP sensor. It is a Walker automotive brand. It was one of two types available to me. After installing it - it did not fix any of the issues. I went ahead and purchased another sensor - A Standard Motor Products brand. Again no changes by swapping out the sensors. I am wandering if some of my issues could be alleviated by purchasing an OEM Bosch sensor? Regardless I did check the wiring and voltages and did not find any discrepancies. So the original Bosch sensor, nor the two new sensors purchased had no bearing on clearing any of the codes.
I next checked the vacuum and vacuum solenoid. I also did a VCDS test of the solenoid and wastegate. I did notice what appeared to be smooth and full articulation of the turbo wastegate arm.
I also pulled the air intake pipe off and probed with a camera the turbo impeller. The impeller spins, is quiet, and the bearings appear to be fine. There appears to be no issues as the shaft spins freely from what I was able to see.
The vacuum pump seems to be producing enough vacuum.
I believe the P0013 air intake code is related to me removing the air box. It was not one of the original trouble codes.
Below is the VDCS Summary:
I also attempted to run a graph of the turbo pressure. I am including that below as well.
My fear is there is an issue with the turbo internals.
Either that or possibly something with the exhaust? (But their doesn't appear to be any related codes)
I also inspected as many vacuum lines and tubes as I could reach and find no issues.
From what I've researched pulling the turbos on these vehicles requires a lift and is extremely time consuming, and having it done by a shop will possibly cost more than the car is worth.
Please let me know what I am missing and where to turn next.
Thanks in advance
