Does that not produce lots of Component Protection faults?

Yes, that is helpful. We are still learning as we go with the latest cars using this PR-Code: NI8 Without UNECE CS (R155) and SU (R156)with Protection of Vehicle Diagnostics PVD2 control module

... but Address 19 has SFD. For that reason I believe you would need to unlock SFD in address 19 (using a token from a 3rd party source) so that this Adaptation channel can be changed:

[*IDE16611-ENG331831*] Diagnosis filter: temporary deactivation

When the diagnostic filter (AKA firewall) is temporary deactivated in address 19 some diagnostic operations may be possible however I get the impression that you would need yet another unlock token for address 09 to perform the tweaks because it also uses SFD.

If you want to experiment with this and do not have a source for tokens one of our German distributors offers offline SFD tokens:

https://shop.pci-diagnosetechnik.de/SFD-Unlock-Base-Rate-incl-1-Control-Unit

If you go with PCI it is more cost effective to purchase two tokens at one time (rather than two in different orders) but I'm not entirely sure if you need two of them. If so, that add-on order page of theirs is:

Hi Dana,

Thank you for your explanation. I am a little confused why my attempts at changes in a non SFD module (52) appears to be blocked - is it because the module is dependent upon the gateway(19), which is an SFD module?

I have some computer skills but not a programmer. I am a hobbyist that *really* appreciates your folks programming and the ability to make a car more usable or less annoying.

At this point, I don't want to spend 30 Euros or more for some of the minor tweaks I wish to do since I am also not especially confident that some of the tokens would permit me to do what I want. I look forward to the day that SFD modifications will be integrated into VCDS.

Exactly. On older cars the diagnostic firewall was deactivated simply by opening the hood.

In this case the diagnostic firewall is not that simple. Instead, this is controlled by an adaptation channel in address 19 and the catch is SFD needs to be unlocked before you can change that ADP channel.

Based on the fact that addresses like 42 and 52 refused changes entirely I'm more confident that the two token song and dance (one for 19 and another for address 09) would be needed. Hopefully we have something to offer you before the car needs a SRI reset, rear brake pads or any similar service related operations. If we aren't ready at that time, my advice is to wait until the car needs something and bundle it with your tweak wish list into one SFD unlock session.

Yes, while the car is with another gateway, several faults appear, but when I return to the original gateway, everything starts communicating again and I just clear the faults with VCDS.
I can make changes to the 5F without any problems.
