Imagine if there was a How-To section at the top of the forum.... that would be so useful.

I broke the sensor before I removed it for better access to the hold down bolt

The sensor was not fully broken, but the crack was obvious when the two pieces were re-mated

I can't even comment... but I'm shocked that you're getting intermittent codes based on what I see.

Like I said, it may not be an issue, I was just asking. I'm still inspecting other wiring. And hey any comments are helpful even if they're insulting.

The connector doesn't have a tab to lock it into place AFAICS. That alone can cause your problem.

Jeezus didn't realize until u said that.
I stuck a pick in to release it and gave it a yank.
Was busy inspecting the wires and not the connector itself.
Thanks man...how freaking stupid can I be.
Glad I know now.

The new connector I ordered comes with wire seals around the input wires. I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that the little bit of exposure the wires had was enough to send a screwed up signal to the ecm. It's a theory only at this point, but I'm hoping it will end this. Also the scan is virtually the same as before I replaced the sensor. There are no other glaring issues with the wiring.

VW will supply the connector, wires & terminals. The part number can be seen on the old connector.

For such a critical sensor, I wouldn't zip tie anything. Replace the connector properly.... cut wires and splice in replacements, use heat shrink and sealant.

Solder, or crimpon insulated?
My son dropped a 1.8 L into a 89 Nissan pickup.
He rewired it bumper to bumper using squishey, silicone impregnated connectors he said is impervious to off road conditions.
Your opinion?

I approve... Just make sure you do it right.
Solder can sometimes become brittle and fail.

I prefer solder/heatshrink but as long as you do a good job, both methods (maybe others, too) will work fine.
