Many moons ago, when our booth at the AAPEX show in Vegas was right behind the huge ZF booth, I had a chat with one of the German ZF reps. I asked him why so many of their transmissions in Audis (mostly the old 5-speeds at that time) began to be problematic after not much more than 100,000 miles. He told me that there were two reasons:

1) Audi's "filled for life" recommendation was BS. Transmission fluid should be changed at 80-100,000 km (50-60,000 miles).

2) ZF had recommended certain sizes/capacities of transmission coolers depending on the car model and application. Audi consistently used smaller ones.

I currently have two vehicles with ZF 8HP transmissions, a 2012 A6 and a 2021 RAM pickup.
- The A6 has less than 20,000 miles on it, but the documents you linked suggest I should service the transmission based on age alone. I've never monitored transmission temperature while driving it.
- The RAM has ~37,000 miles. It's not due yet. Being an American pickup, it can happily display transmission temperature in the instrument cluster. I've never seen it above 190F, even climbing long grades at 75-80 mph.

ECM (ECU) module , Engine Control Module, Part number no longer shown on label. It seems that number shown is some sort of Item number or general group number (???). It is NOT the PN.

The part number for my specific vehicle (per VIN) shown here on this thread is 8W0-907-551-R-8WB. Per Audi Dealer by phone call. All these ECM's seem to be made or ordered on a as needed basis. Four to Eight weeks per order. Cost is approximately 2K usd. Note: those last PN (suffix) number and letters are key.

I think you'll find that you can't monitor eff all on the ZF.... I tried to dig into all the stuff that I'm used to seeing on the egg in my A6 and was greatly disappointed.

Well, that A6 is gone. Traded it for the Gas-Reg, which of course has an Aisin trans.

Interestingly enough, my truck (2021 RAM Ecodiesel) has a ZF 8HP75 and happily displays transmission temperature in the dash. I have monitored it and don't recall ever seeing it above 200F.

Ahh, that makes sense, thank you Uwe. I noticed (that HW number) was shown for 2018-2024.
Edit: It just occured to me that the SW PN is in the Auto-Scan :o.... However, note that the suffix or part of it is not in the Auto-Scan,
8-WB.

I was thinking of my 2009 S5 where on the ECU label- that label uses a complete number one would use to order or look up that “part”.

Evidently that number on that vintage of ECU is the hardware and software number combined (???)
8T0-907-560-K (SW. K)?

The label on the S5 ECU shows HW: H10

Thanks again for the clarification Uwe.

Was doing some exploring today .... and installing the ECS "skid plate" ; street shield and trans. shield (3mm thickness aluminum custom fitted plate(s) to factory fastening locations of plastic splash and insulation covers) and I snapped some pics of the Oil level sender, front anti-roll bar, and Oil pan PN's.

Pictures of street shields in place coming.

Oh, you bet. I have 5,400 miles on it all ready! That is a second set of wheels and (All season Michelins) ; the factory set that came on the car has competition / track (summer) Pirelli tires. So, from November to April, I'll use the Michelins.

I tend to use the S5 for local trips and the RS5 for the 80 mile round trips (usually twice a week).

SFD procedure for Service Functions

Brake Pad Lining Change and SRI reset notes:

I thought I would post these notes for SFD related service functions, specifically Rear Brake pad lining change and SRI reset. Some notes are copied from RT Admin. (Uwe and Dana) and some are my short hand notes prior to running the steps involved. These were preformed (successfully) on my 2024 RS5 B9.5 vehicle.

I also posted a copy of this for the same vehicle in the Reference Scans and Maps of non-broken cars section of the forum.

SRI Reset:

Hi Stefan,

I believe Eric is correct and the time, rather than distance, is why the car is nagging you for Inspection. It is set to warn 30 days ahead of time (IDE05930-Service notification in days,30 d) with the limit of 730 days (IDE12979-Inspection: time until next inspection,730 d) and you are at 711 days.

Both of these channels should reset to 0 days and distance since:

IDE12980-Inspection: distance driven since the last inspection FIX: Distance SINCE last mileage-dependent Inspection 12700 km ---
IDE12981-Inspection: time since the last inspection FIX: Time SINCE last time-dependent Inspection 711 d ---

.. if you do this:

1) Connect to Address 19, unlock SFD and then turn off the firewall via ADP channel IDE16611-Diagnosis filter: temporary deactivation

2) Try the [SRI Reset] function once more using the 2nd drop-down menu Operation: Reset FIX&ESI / INSP - North America or Rest of World second service and later

.. followed by [Perform SRI].

You may need to cycle the ignition after the new values were saved so the cluster/MIB update. Providing that worked as expected you can go back into address 19 and re-lock it so the Release / Enable Active DTC can be cleared.

Address 03: ABS Brakes
Brake Pad/lining Change:
