Can't find P1720

I've been asked to take a look at a friend's VW Tiguan which has developed a transmission problem. He has already scanned it with a lesser quality scanner and tells me it's showing the DTC P1720. I intend to have a look at it at the weekend but checking out our forum I can't find anything on P1720. Assuming he had given me the wrong code I've asked him to verify it again and he confirmed it's definitely P1720.
On checking the list of all VW DTC's I still can't find a P1720.
Any thoughts?

Yes, any P1xxx is a manufacturer-defined code, so a generic scanner is unlikely to be much help.

In generic OBD-II mode, VCDS would tell you:
Transmission Output Speed 1: Implausible Signal

However, you should probably scan it in native VAG mode with VCDS. That often provides more precise info.

Yes, he says he's seeing 'implausible signal' so I'm guessing it's a sensor problem or a wiring issue.
I'll see how I get on with it at the weekend.
