Let's give the Chinese credit for their ingenuity and brilliance. In general, the Chinese I met are good people trying to live just like all the rest of us. Their moral code is slightly different that that of the West. They see copying as a compliment to the inventor.
I have made several trips to China to try to find a means to stop the clones. As @PetroDave mentioned, the Chinese government do not want to stop the cloning of products. To continue their growth and economic expansion, they need to sell goods outside their country. Mind, it appears their economy is not doing well at the moment.
Meeting with government officials of both the US and China was the equivalent of pissing in the wind. I'm the only one who got wet...
US government says they cannot help. Chinese government says, show us all the source code and prove the products are clones.
We ended our efforts...
Our only recourse is to fight the Clone Wars everyday as we do. It is more like the game of Whack-o-Mole. You smack one down here, they pop up over there. The game goes on.
People have to see value in what they buy. If a clone is good enough at the steal of a price, then that is what they buy.
I think it is exactly like trying to stop the drug traffic. Until there is no demand, there will always be supply.
