Now I know the guy that had owned this car before I bought it and he was always taking it to the car wash and spraying it with the high pressure hose. He also washed the engine almost weekly.
I refuse to wash (or let anyone else wash) my engines. Even on those rare occasions when I've had cars detailed, my instructions to the detailer were: Wipe down what you can reach with a rag, but don't you dare get in my engine bay with a pressure washer or even just a hose.

I think my visceral reaction to the concept of washing an engine comes from back in the day when cars had ignition distributors and spark plug wires. If you washed an engine down back then, you could pretty much count on it running like crap for for a while until it got good and hot and everything dried out, or you took all that stuff apart and meticulously dried it and applied some WD40.

More updates: ABS module fails again. Get another one off ebay. Car won't detect it. I send a bad one out to get repaired and the repair company tells me that it's beyond repairable. So i Order a remanufactured one. Car won't detect it. So I start verifying that the bundle of wires are all in working order. 2 hots all the time and 1 hot keyed ok. 2 grounds ok. Now I get to the 2 connectors behind the instrument panel and I spray deoxit contact cleaner on them and reassemble and magically the abs module is detected. I'm hopeing that I've found the electrical gremlin. It's been working fine for a little while now.....
