if I run an autoscan on two different cars, and they have different engine ECUs (just an example), but VCDS indicates the same label file... is it correct to assume that in the coding, the same byte/bit will perform the same function on both modules? even if coding lenght is different between modules?

such as:

Hard to be sure. The label file in question documents 9 bytes (0 through 8), which matches the length of the non-zero bytes in the 04E ECU.

The 05E ECU has a lot more bytes than that, and Byte 09 is not zero.

@Sebastian and/or @Dana should probably have a look at this.

The length isn't so much the issue, the additional byte often only contains additional functions (the general table is standardized, though there are different base lines). We have lately noticed that some files may not match the specific ECU type (manufacturer/supplier type), so you may see some changes there in the future.

Long story short, if a file is the same you can expect the base line information to be the same as well. Though future feedback/information/updates may change that.

I am retrofitting the Webasto parking heater into my current car (MQBEvo, top ECU) and trying to figure out the coding, since I cannot find a single MQBEvo autoscan with module 18.

my previous car (MQB, bottom ECU) needed one bit changed to activate the fuel "transfer" pump.

For the engine coding, Parking heater is Byte 3 Bit 3

that's exactly what I had enabled for the Golf 7. thank you for confirming it's the same on MQBEvo.
