Rear headlight level sensor change audi a4 b9

Hi All,

Hope you are well.

I have just replaced the rear level sensor on my A4 B9, using P/N 8W0941309C - and just wondering if anyone has any advice for firstly, if it needs coding in, and secondly how to code it.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere on the forum, I have just struggled to get a definitive answer in my search in the last few days.

I have watched a fair few videos and attempted to connect to module 34 - Level control - but it keeps saying that it is unable to connect.

Is this the correct module? I'm struggling to find a definitive answer online.

I think as dareckim11 said - potentially my car just does not have the module 34 on from the factory and as such I cannot access it. I'm just struggling to understand what module I need to be on to then restore the level sensor to the basic settings.

Good question. On cars that have an active suspension, it will be 14, 34, or 74, and the headlights will get height data from the suspension modules. But your car has none of these because it presumably has a steel spring suspension with conventional hydraulic dampers.

Let's back-track a bit. On what basis did you replace the ride-height sensor? Wich module had a fault for it? I don't see a fault for that sensor in any of the data you posted.

Hi Uwe,

I replaced the whole unit because it seized on the ball joint, and the main dealer said that the whole unit needed replacing.

There was nothing at all wrong with the sensor, and they just said I needed a new unit, and wanted around £350 for the privilege of the part and fitting it.

Anyway, long story short i bought a new level sensor from TPS (Parts supplier) and fitted it earlier this week. I also put new steel springs on the back two corners - and so wanted to make sure everything was adjusted correctly with any values assigned to the sensor.

You are spot on with the suspension setup - mine does just have steel suspension, there's nothing fancy on this car -- it is just the bog standard s-line A4.

Yeah exactly - the car seems okay with it so far, I just wanted to triple check there wasn't something that I had to do on vcds to avoid the car coming up with some warning lights in the future - just to save any headaches if I was driving for work and was without my cable.

Vertical aim on the lights seems okay - but just for my own learning, is there a way that we can adjust that in the software itself? I will look over it properly tonight once it gets a bit darker and give it a final check to see if everything is OK!

In general, the procedure is to put the lights in a Basic Setting mode that forces them to a home/neutral position, mechanically adjust their aim while they're in that mode, then confirm the Basic Setting.

In your car, that looks to be done at address 09, the BCM/CECM, using these Basic Settings:

IDE03675 -- Basic setting of headlamps
IDE03676 -- Acknowledge basic setting

Exactly that - In the absence of Level Control all you need to do is adjust the headlamp aim correctly with an unladen car. From that the Headlight adjuster and its controller will do its thing.

Again - do that with the vehicle Unladen.

You will not have any control of vehicle Height wit that set up - The Properties of the spring will determine ride height.
