I hear in the US it is a different story with not nice consequences !!
It should have severe consequences here to, especially for those who offer the service but all our government seems to care about is truthful comments about middle class middle aged greying women looking for cash and attention via a celebrity, using the correct pronouns for people with mental health issues and letting in as many illegal immigrants as they can before the public rise up and stuff them big time

It depends where in the US the car is registered. There are areas that have no emissions inspections at all, where one could likely get away with it indefinitely. The difficult part now is finding a way to do the delete. With the way the EPA has come down on shops that do them, those that might still be willing certainly don't advertise.

in any case, we don't condone or support emissions deletes here in this forum.

Agreed. But there's one thing you missed: Money. It can take substantial amounts of money to fix them properly.

Oh, and there have been cases where new, replacement DPFs have on back-order for many months here on this side of the pond. So even if a person wanted to fix a car correctly, it wasn't possible to do so in a timely manner.

Valid Point !!

In those cases I will try to source Used Parts from a trusted supplier - Used but insist they are genuine !!

Or even impossible. We had to walk away from a very clean low mileage high spec 2009 Golf 5 GTTDI with the 170PS BMN engine. It needed four new injectors but Bosch and VW have dropped them (plus they were £537.60 EACH) and they had caused the DPF to melt, these are also obsolete in right hand drive format with aftermarket versions being crap. So basically it was break the law or scrap it which is simply wrong.
