I have the HEX-V2 and cannot get it to work when I'm plugged into a laptop, but it works fine when plugged into my desktops. I have a Dell XPS 13 7390 and an MSI 14 C7M, both clean Windows 11 installs.

Car is a 2007 Audi RS4.

- The Dell will not recognize the device, period. It simply doesn't exist in HID devices or USB Devices, not even as an errored device.
- The MSI sees a generic HID device but I can't get it to recognize it as a Ross-tech device.
- For both laptops the HEX-V2 wont power on until it is plugged into my car (ignition is on but car is not running). The lights on both sides go yellow (I believe solid yellow), and plugging into my PC's does nothing.

Both laptops show the Test error in VCDS:

Ross-Tech USB Interface Not Found!
USB Library Version: 03.02.07
Interface: Not Found!

I plugged the HEX-V2 into a desktop PC with VCDS installed and it lit up fine, tested fine, lights when blue on the device.

I'm lost.

EDIT: Corrected or expanded PC laptop model information

Only thought I have are the ports being shut down due to power option?

The fact that you can not power the device from the USB side is what leads me to ask....

I played with those options and no success. Other devices work fine - and the power issue should be taken care of by plugging it into the vehicle, no?

I'm not a computer person, but when this has come up here in the past or similar..... be sure the Legacy drivers (box) is checked ; its the box menu that comes up when you first download the VCDS software ; I think it is the top choice on the list, the others are usually pre-checked.

Thanks for your reply, but my understanding is that is not necessary for the HEX-V2.

To be clear about USB Power Options:

- In Device Manager, under Power Settings for USB Root Hub, I unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
- In Advanced Power Plan Settings I Disabled USB selective suspend when unplugged or plugged in.

Any spyware or firewall preventing operation of VCDS?

That indicates power from the car, but unable to enumerate on the PC.

So it is able to enumerate on your descktop.

For laughs, try a generic USB-A to USB-B "printer" cable in place of the cable that came with the HEX-V2.

I swapped out the USB-C cable from Ross-Tech to the USB-A Cable and that worked on my MSI laptop. I purchased both cables with my order, as my Dell XPS doesn't even have a USB-A port, all C.

So... in my case none of the USB-C cables on my laptops worked (but the USB-C on my desktop did), and the USB-A cable worked on my laptop that had the port.

Is there a known issue with USB-C and laptop compatibility? Future laptops are less and less likely to have USB-A ports.

Nope. I too have a Dell XPS-13 and a Surface Go that both lack USB-A.

We're aware. That's why we offer USB-C cables as an option. ;)

Could still be a dodgy USB-C cable. TBH, we don't test those before we ship 'em. We can arrange to send you another if you like.

If only your resellers would sell those usb-c cables … instead of showing a picture of usb-c with nice ross-tech strap then shipping chinese crap usb-a in the package. Ik, ain’t happy. I moved over with life, but I will not forget.

That's worth a shot, but it is still odd that the USB-C worked fine on a desktop.
