Hi guys. I have error on the display in the centre of the instrument cluster. Code 00003, I’m sure I read on the forum somewhere that is was a coding issue but I can’t find that thread again.

No, I really don't think that "00003 - Control Module / 014 - Defective" is a coding issue.

You may be thinking of "00003 - Control Module / 005 - No or Incorrect Basic Setting". When found in an instrument cluster, that's usually a problem with the Service Reminder values.

Can happen for incorrect bootup or any attempt to read immodata or mileage from the cluster.

Considering the age of the car and from what I've seen as a trend in UK, probably someone has added a extra key to it.

Someone has been into this instrument cluster and removed the airbag and steering wheel warning lamps. I’m assuming this is enough to cause the problem?

Yes this is your issue. You can try replacing the leds that are missing and it should be ok. Note Leds are most likely plcc type leds just have to match the size a color or put in funky colors if you want lol.

A better way would have been to simply cover them black electrical tape. ;)

EuroX. I have purchased a used set of clocks for parts to repair this cluster.
Uwe. Most annoyingly the airbag faults were just the usual yellow connectors on the seat harness, which I had already sorted before the scan and the other was the two twisty wires on the door side of the harness, which I took care of this morning.
When I have had to resort to removing dash lights the old fashioned way, I used black epoxy resin.

Following on from this, i received a similar instrument cluster to remove the leds from. Opened up the original cluster to find the board on the tacho and speedo have been properly butchered.
If I source a used cluster with identical part number to the original can I code it in with vcds or is it a more involved process?
