it seems like S&S cannot be fully disabled on my new car. I bought a chinese module that connects on the Gateway and will "virtually press" the S&S button in the infotainment at every ignition cycle, since there is no real button anymore. the module works just fine. I thought I had won.
I suddenly realised I was a fool. I am not sure if it's because the car is MILD-HYBRID, or because it's DSG, but when I approach a stop along the road, the car will "coast" and ultimately STILL TURN THE ENGINE OFF when it's almost still. immediately after stopping, the engine turns on again. this is beyond stupid, I would really like the designer to meet my whip made of CAN-BUS wires.
I made a quick search online and... this just seems to be the design. had I known it before, I would have chosen an older car. to me, it's just unacceptable. I decide when to turn off the engine, period. let's not even talk about the added wear on the battery and starter motor.
it looks like the only way to get rid of this would be by involving an ECU tuner, which could also disable the 2-cylinder mode (another idiocy product...)
I contacted a few and the money they ask is reasonable, so I would like to go along that road, but I need to understand something.
is the "coasting" due to the car being MILD-HYBRID? if so, I would assume the feature to be kind of required to recharge the 48V battery, so I would look into maintaining that and just disabling the engine turn off part.
OR
is the "coasting" a DSG feature and can I get rid of it?
(just for the record, no, there is no coasting disabling option even in my custom Driving Profile settings)
also, what do you people think about the 2-cylinder feature?
to me, it all sounds like bullshit so that car manufacturers can adhere to low emissions, but for us it's more petrol and more wear on engine...
am I wrong just because I want a "normal" car?
