The fuel pump will not prime when I open the drivers door resulting in long starter motor running. It worked properly until a few days ago. The interior lights work as they should and I'm not getting any codes for this.
Any and all assistance is appreciated.

Likely a dead relay or a dead LPFP. Grab a wiring diagram, find the relay, and test it. If the relay is good, then remove your back seat, remove the fuel tank service hatch, and jump 12V + GND to the fuel pump harness and see if it spins up. You'll probably find one of the two isn't working.

Background: as long as there isn't air in the line and your fuel filter's check valve is working, the HPFP can siphon fuel and start the car even without the assistance of the LPFP, but it will result in excessively long crank times as you've described.

Thank you for the reply. Does this model have a fuel pump relay or a control module. You jogged my memory a bit and I think I recall a module on top of the fuel tank that went bad on a previous car I had. It would stop working when the drivers door was opened when the outside temperature got down to around 30F. I’ll dig deeper.

Usually the driver door open signal also primes the fuel pump.
Usually same signal to turn on inside light. (you say yours works)
Usually same signal will cause a ding sound if you leave key in ignition and open door.
Usually same thing if you leave headlights on (not auto) and open door.
Also same signal should set alarm off also. Drop driver window lock doors reach in open window and open door from inside alarm should go off.

Door open signal is a micro switch inside door latch that usually controls door open signal.
Very common for the micro switch to fail in door latch to cause these not to work. Fix is new door latch with new micro switch.

Try all the things door open signal should control and see what doesn't works besides fuel pump prime.
Also once you open door and pump primes it only does it once and it won't prime every time you open door. There is a time frame involved.
It should prime after car sits like every morning. But not if you shut car off run in a store and come back in a quick time frame.

Not sure off the top of my head, and I'd have to dig through my file storage to find the relevant info. I used to own a 2006 A6 Avant 3.2L, so I'm rather familiar with your vehicle. I want to say the fuel pump ran off an actual discrete relay, but I'm only about 70% sure of that.
