POLO 6R: Error scanning "CAN Gateway" - missing ASAM data

Hi All
My daughter purchased 2017 1.4 TDI Polo 6R this week (previously she had a 2010 1.6 TDI) When I try to scan it with VCDS I get an error on the "CAN Gateway" of missing ASAM data

Because of the fault I cant do any adjustments on that module (greyed out) as I wanted to change the stop/start voltage to stop it functioning. I've been in contact with VCDS support and they suggested to try the latest Beta version and to check if there was a GPS tracker or Black Box module piggybacking onto the ODB port. I've tried the Beta and also checked around the car today and cannot see anything, wiring all looks original.

Just wondered if anybody else had seen anything similar previously. All other modules scan OK and VCDS works without issue on our other family VAG cars (A2, A6 and Golf)

If you are checking for one of those tracking devices, you need to remove some of the under dash panels where the DLC connector is (where you plug in VCDS). Once those panels are removed, you will be able to see the DLC wiring and if anything is spliced into it.

Hi Thanks, thats what I did today. Im pretty certain its the original port/wiring. No additional device or piggyback port/wiring :thumbs:

So do you think its a faulty module, which would be subsystem 3. If so I'm not sure what it could be, as all other example I've seen of VCDS scans of the same model as ours only list the 2 subsystems that mine shows under CAN Gateway of "Multifunction steering wheel control module" and "Battery Monitoring Control Module"
I'm struggling at the moment to understand how to proceed to further diagnose the problem :-( does anyone know where the (VW26) comes from or relates to in the scan log?

Huh? I only see two subsystems, which is typical if you search for that Gateway part number:

Is the module faulty or is something else happening here? I really don't know.

Likely from the VIN. Same part numbers and ASAM IDs can be used in different brands and chassis type, but the factory data can be different, hence the "project" description is needed.

Here's the full scan, what I was asking was: because the missing data is reported after the expected 2 subsystems does that mean that VCDS thinks there is something else attached to that module? I notice also on the 2 subsystems that they dont have the descriptions ("Multifunction steering wheel control module" and "Battery Monitoring Control Module") whereas in the other modules scanned the subsystem descriptions are present, is that relevant?

No. Those sorts of messages come after subsystems.

I think that's due to VCDS not knowing what ASAM data to load.

Let's dig a bit deeper here. Go to [Options]. Set Debug Level to 1024. Click [Apply]. Then go directly to 19-CAN Gateway and click on [Advanced ID]. There, click [Save]. Then exit the module gracefully.

Please post the saved data here (it will be in your Logs sub-folder). Also look in your Debug sub-folder. There you should find a file named DEBUG19.DLM. E-mail that file to Support@Ross-Tech.com and include a link to this thread.

Your gateway comes back with a string of zeroes (in hex) when asked for its ASAM identification. Something is either corrupt or needs a dataset flashed. If you're not OCD and there's no functional concern with the vehicle, I'd let it be; otherwise you could try installing a used one from ebay, should be <100 euros but you'll have a lot of coding and adaptations to transfer at address 19 as well as 09. That's assuming that module isn't part of the immobilizer system as well. I'm not familiar enough with the MQB A0 platform to know for sure.

There is no immo in 6R bcm/gateway. I changed once on a flooded car. It worked.
