New user, verified (I received the account approved email), but I am not able to post. Posting here, perhaps mods can resolve and move post to correct forum.

Having a fatal issue with my eGolf after using VCDS 24.7.1 and going into module 8C, Basic Settings (04) and running ENG1311-Cell-Controller_Numbering. I assumed this to be an information pull, not anything that would impact operation. However, afterwards I received the red triangle with bang, and error, "Error: Electrical system. Stop!" and while the car powers on, it will not drive. Everything was fine with it prior to this action.

I also noticed my 50% GOM (should have been around 40ish miles) drop to 6 miles.

12V battery has a good charge.

I attempted removing the HV fuse and letting it sit for a few hours, then replacing - to no avail.

I've attempted to clear DTCs in modules 01, 51 8C with no resolution. My guess is the HV system has shut down and needs to be re-connected. Hoping this is doable with VCDS, else it's going to take a dealer trip.

I mostly use VCDS on my other car, so only have a few saved scans here. Found one from 2019, looked basically the same.

There was definitely no issues with 8C before I started yesterday.

I’ve got the 12V on charge now since it’s run down due to all the scans I’m running. Fingers crossed that helps.

Updating here -

1) got my registration squared away on VCDS - thanks for the help!

2) vehicle status - Towed it to the dealer, they've had it for over two weeks and are recommending replacing "Cell Circuit 'C'" which includes two modules and a bunch of labor (dropping the battery) for a total of $8,575 + tax. 🤦‍♂️ Car is only worth about $12k. ha!

The main part numbers in the W.O. are 5QE-915-599-AH and two 5QE-915-599-AKs, listed as "Cell Modules." The rest is labor misc things.

Any insights into what running "ENG1311-Cell-Controller_Numbering" in VCDS did and perhaps how to un-do it? Some sort of adaptation on a BCM?

The independent shops w/ EV specialty that I've talked to said they can't help since they don't have ODIS.

I'd welcome additional insights or other resources to explore.

I've seen it before.
Got a call that after "reading faults" car won't drive. We tried reflash of the named module, but nothing.

I don't know the the story after as car was towed to somewhere and I never got feedback. What I do know is that the module is buried deep inside the HV battery and whole battery needs to be taken apart. Module itself doesn't cost much, but labor does.

I told them I tried to pull codes on it and then this happened. I didn't say I was using VCDS, specifically, and didn't say the specific action I took ("ENG1311-Cell-Controller_Numbering").

Would that even mean anything to them?

I'm with you. I would love to know more about what that action (ENG1311-Cell-Controller_Numbering) specifically does as part of that conversation so that I could explain it in lower-level terms (not just VCDS terms). e.g., does it 0 out values and we would need to go back in there to put in proper values, etc.

Is there someone from Ross-Tech that can help with that understanding first so then I can go to the tech?

Else, I can just bring VCDS to the dealer with me and show them.

ENG1311-Cell-Controller_Numbering is not a VCDS function. All VCDS does is communicate with the module and it's the module that reported that this output test is there. VCDS then instructs the module to activate it's own test.

Bringing VCDS to the dealer won't do anything either. I think your best bet would be to find an independent shop who pays for ODIS access to try to work with you on an hourly flat rate. They would connect with ODIS and see if there is a guided function available for that module that would get you out of this error state. If that fails you might want to try to pay for one of those online services where someone connects remotely to help and they use ODIS-E (ODIS engineering).

I just talked to the Service Advisor, told him the actions I took, what I wanted to pursue next and he said they had multiple calls with VWoA techs who remotely assisted their local tech with "guided fault" exploration in ODIS and this was their conclusion. Replace the modules.

Given that, do you think that an independent shop with ODIS-E would still be a valid path to pursue? Are there things one can do with ODIS-E that the VWoA techs won't/can't?
