Hello everyone,

Sorry for this very long and chaotic first post :)

I've recently acquired a very cheap VW EOS 2006 2.0 petrol (€ 1500) :D

It was cheap because:
  • From a friend
  • LCD in cluster defect
  • Dirty because of water leakage
  • Roof did not open
  • Small crack in front bumper
  • Previously had a new engine installed (car has 220k, engine something like 60/70k)

What have I done already?
  • Fixed the roof with some <€20 parts
  • Cleaned the interior and unplugged the drainage holes
  • Upgraded the radio with a very modern Discovery Pro unit
  • Removed the IMMO from the ECU (couldn't get the new gen cluster to work otherwise)
  • Installed a newer gen NEC VDO 24C64 cluster with color LCD (corrected the mileage, doesn't complain over the key because it thinks it has keyless entry)
  • Upgraded the CAN gateway to a newer model because the cluster couldn't communicate with the ***** (don't know if it's allowed to mention other diag products) software I used to perform all key lost

Now for the chaotic part:
The car starts and runs fine, only I screwed up at the first moment I got the replacement cluster by just hooking it up and seeing if it works :(
(A few months before, I replaced a cluster to a newer one with lcd in our KIA Sportage, that was just plug and play :), only needed all key lost and mileage correction. So naturally, I thought this would be the same here.. :banghead: )
So now I have the ABS and ESP lights on, I can peform Basic Setting on the sensors, only it will keep throwing the "Control Module Incorrectly Coded" error

The coding is correct "0021218", but when I look at the flash status it shows all zeros. I read that this is because the VIN in the cluster and ECU don't match.

So I think (but want some verification of the experts ) that this is my next to do:

-Reflash the cluster so the VIN matches the ECU (possible with my other hardware, I'm fairly certain)
-Relearn the ABS long coding (Havent figuered out how and i'm missing the code, so if you guys could help me i would be really grateful)
-Peform again, the basic setting

And all lights should be off, then I can focus on the correct coding of other parts and maybe lay some extra CAN lines between the cluster and radio (I think these are missing), then some new gen bumpers/lights and a Polo steerring wheel from a 2017 model would make it mint

For info here is the ABS:

Very nice first post!

Here is the ECU: Chassis Number: WVWZZZ1FZ6V006051
2006 Eos.

Here is the Cluster: Chassis Number: WVWFW7AHXCV006093
2012 Eos.

Now an MK60 doesn't have VIN-specific coding, but I wonder of it, like the Gateway, might not be compatible with the much newer, UDS cluster you have in this car?

Hello Uwe, thanks for the response

So the problem doesn’t lay in the ABS unit but probably in compatibility of the old pump and the modern cluster, I believe that’s a good conclusion only where does the ABS unit get the fault code “Control Module Incorrectly Coded” from? When I delete the codes it wants to perform a ESP learn and the cluster responds to that with flashing the ESP light. Only when i make the test drive it doesn’t respond to the brake pressure above 35 bar light flash, and it times out returning the same error code of incorrectly coded

Maybe the best solution would be to get the modern version of the ABS unit

Greetings,
Lex

It's not a conclusion; it's speculation on my part.

Converting an MK60 ABS system to a more modern MK60EC1 can be done, but is not trivial. IMO, a path of less resistance would be to put a vintage-appropriate cluster in this car.

I'm this far in the rabbit hole, now is not the time to give up, i have time and patience (most importantly, multiple forms of transportation)
Also it's a fun learning experience. I'm no mechanic but have exchanged multiple gearboxes and even head gaskets on the street with no form of car lift, my work field is repairing industrial electronics

When i go back from the coding "0021218" acording to this:
Code:
Model:
  +0000000 = Audi A3 (8P) / Seat Leon (1P) / VW Golf/Jetta (1K) / Skoda Octavia (1Z)
  +0000064 = VW Touran (1T)
  +0000080 = VW Caddy (2K)
     +0000096 = VW Eos (1F)
  +0000112 = Seat Altea/Toledo (5P) / VW Golf Plus (5M)
Frontbrakes (Sensor Cluster OLD):
  +0000005 = FS III 54 15" (PR-1ZF/1ZM/1ZC)
  +0000006 = FN III 54 15"/16" (PR-1ZE/1LJ/1ZP/1ZD/1LL)
  +0000009 = FRNG 57 17" (PR-1LK)
Frontbrakes (Sensor Cluster NEW):
  +0000001 = FS III 54 15" (PR-1ZF/1ZM/1ZC)
     +0000002 = FN III 54 15"/16" (PR-1ZE/1LJ/1ZP/1ZD/1LL)
  +0000008 = FRNG 57 17" (PR-1LK)
Suspension:
     +0000640 = Standard/Sport Suspension (PR-2UA/2UC OR PR-UA0/UA1/UA9)
  +0001152 = Rough Road/Comfort Suspension (PR-2UB/2UD OR PR-UA2)
Engine:
  +0002048 = 1.4l / 1.6l & 1.6l FSI
     +0004096 = 1.9l TDI PD / 2.0l FSI / 2.0l SDI PD & All with Automatic Transmission
  +0006144 = 2.0l TDI PD
Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS):
+0000000 = with ABS based Tire Pressure Monitoring (PR-7K1/7K6)
+0016384 = without ABS based Tire Pressure Monitoring (PR-7K0/7K4/7K8)

I notice 2 strange things, the car in my understanding has no TPMS so I assume it would use ABS based Tire Pressure Monitoring, and the "Frontbrakes (Sensor Cluster NEW)" is also strange, it came with an old cluster?
Now i'm second guessing myself if I didn't remember the lights or changing the code when working on the cluster

What makes you think it uses any at all? No means no. I believe it was possible to enable it on those MK60 ABS modules, but the detection capabilities didn't meet the regulatory standards for TPMS in most markets.

Good question, it was an assumption. I found the sticker with PR codes

IMG-8060.jpg

So it has the FN III brakes and now i’m stuck because I can’t find any codes for the suspension and TPMS

Does that mean I was wrong to add the 640 for standard suspension?

Thanks for your efforts Uwe I appreciate it

2 Faults Found:
10485825 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
B2000 41 [10001001] - General Checksum Failure
[Steuergerät defekt (EEPROM-Bereich Gesamtwegstrecke)]
MIL ON - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1

Eeprom file in the cluster is scrued maybe because you tried to correct the mileage it cheap tool!
Your ABS pump is fine and yes...correct the VIn and the rest of the immo data in the cluster and your problem is solved!

Definitely not cheap way more than a legitimate hex net, but then again i wont make adds for other hardware/software here. I thought the first version of the MK60 wasn't vin specific? So does the first gen ABS unit check the cluster and ECU for IMMO mismatch but not on itself because it doesn’t have any vin info stored in the unit itself?

Ill make some time this weekend to redo the programing of the cluster if i can find some blank id48 chips, and assure the correct vin is applied

Thanks for your thoughts

Alibaba is your friend ;). I bought a bag with 10 of the older style which is not the flimsy glass vials.

I'm short on words but:

EEPROM and Immo on these clusters is so reverse-engineered by now, it's so boring to even look at these. :)
ABS sometimes loses it's calibration when different VIN is seen on CanBUS. Luckily this ABS unit does support newer cluster.
Just do the basic settings.

You do need brand new id48-s though as the Megamos algorithm used to generate the bytes for older cluster ID48 won't allow You do reuse old transponders as the last pages are always different due to different TPID.

I did the basic settings but keep getting the
Code:
01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded
            008 - Implausible Signal

Have You changed the VIN in cluster?

Just did and now it works like a charm

I find it strange however that the unit itself doesn’t contain any vin info but checks for mismatch between the ecu and cluster. But for now i’m very happy thanks everyone for te help
