Hi there,
I've been doing a couple of retrofit add-ons to my sons 2013 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo, including adding cruise control and a Multi Function Steering Wheel.
He's only had the car 8 weeks now, but it was bought from his uncle, was well kept and only had a couple of random issues with the radio & multimedia player with it when I first scanned the car as below
Prior to commencing the cruise and MFSW installs, we have changed all front light bulbs for LED replacement variety (H7, H4 & W5W), and the rear number plate lamps for LED C5W festoon lamps - none of these have caused any issues.
We have upgraded the base head unit for aftermarket one as here
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083TBTSWC?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
but again, nothing has been evident with the system since installing this.
During the course of last weekend, I have added the cruise control system with changing the column stalks and adding a new short loom from the column stalks, via the BCM T73B plug, fusebox and finally the T94 plug of the engine ECU, all as per the details below.
With hindsight, it would have been sensible for me to have tried to take another scan of the car before committing to the retrofits, but my mind was more focused on the physical challenge ahead of getting all of the cabling installed, and based on the understanding that the new looms come pre-fitted with connector ends, short of getting them in the wrong hole position, I felt the connections shouldn't pose any issue once the plugs were all installed again as the plugs have a very positive connection with their respective female sockets.
I have added a flat bottomed MFSW following the link that's posted in the first page of the cruise control info as below
https://uk-polos.net/viewtopic.php?t=54171
Whilst the instructions were easy enough to follow there is one difference in the set up from the original posters car to my sons Fabia, that being the colour of the wire located in pin 17 of the BCM white plug.
In the original posters car it was violet/white, whilst in my sons car it was grey/white, all the other cables in the plug appeared to be the same colours in both cars so i just put this down to a quirk difference between the VW and Skoda brands.
Having installed all of the cabling and got the car back together I came to code the new parts but couldn't get VCDS to connect with any module in the car.
I have tested the port etc and provide photos below of VCDS dialogue boxes returned
I've only posted the failed response from the engine and central electrics controllers, but I got a fail response from all controllers both under auto scan and individual controller requests.
Just to confuse things even more, I can access the controllers when I use Carista and OBDEleven.
I have been able to add the coding for the cruise and MFSW, but the car now throws fault codes for the steering angle sensor, and cruise set condition??
Below codes pulled using Carista 28/10/24 at 21.04hrs
Since taking the above, log I have turned off the coding applications for the MFSW and cruise using OBD Eleven, and the cruise fault no longer appears, but the steering angle fault is persistent.
I have followed other forum advice to cure the steering angle fault, dropping the cables off the battery waiting 5mins, turning the wheel from lock to lock before reapplying power, still nothing.
I have also followed other methods with engine running and turning fully left and hold for 10 seconds, then fully right and hold for 10 seconds but this has proved fruitless too.
Whilst scrolling through one of the other threads about the steering angle issue, I came across a suggestion that the steering angle fault could be caused by having the squib ring drop out of sync with it's original programmed position in relation to the centre / straight ahead steering position - this might be relevant in my case, as when moving the squib ring from the original set of columns stalks to the new ones for cruise, the position of the ring moved, and in all honesty I wasn't sure whether it had moved clockwise or anticlockwise, so I adjusted the squib to the approximate centre position.
One thing that was very apparent was that the squib has 7.5 turns end to end, whereas the steering only has 4 turns lock to lock, so it's quite possible that the approx. centre of the squib is 1 rotation out of phase, one way or another.
I appreciate there's a lot of possibilities in the mix, but I'm interested in any pointers as to where to start, short of removing everything and starting again, but I'm not sure that would cure the VCDS non reading issue??

Prior to commencing the cruise and MFSW installs, we have changed all front light bulbs for LED replacement variety (H7, H4 & W5W), and the rear number plate lamps for LED C5W festoon lamps - none of these have caused any issues.
We have upgraded the base head unit for aftermarket one as here

but again, nothing has been evident with the system since installing this.

==================================================================================================================
