I have a 2011 touareg with the p242a code kicking up and in limp mode. I've procured the appropriate brown connector sensor but cannot find the sensor (B1 S3) location for the life of me. All of the videos I've seen show that EGT sensor 3 is located on the front (engine side) of the DPF however having looked over 20 times there is NOT a sensor on my DPF at all. I can see the one immediately following the dpf that is before the ad blue injector but nothing before. This is a USA model 2011 touareg so is there a difference in location between usa and uk models? Any help would be appreciated as I do not want to go to the dealership or pay to have this sensor replaced if i do not have to.

I'm sure the service manual (which I'm sure you're referencing) has some clues.....
My guess would be, you have to remove a bunch of stuff in order to gain access.... engine cover and whatever else is in your way to gain access to it from inside the engine bay. (that is if you truly can't see it from under.... but now that I think of it, I believe you're mistaken... it should be accessed from the bottom)
