Good day all,

I’m experiencing an issue with my ACC system where the car goes into limp mode, losing power, and I have to pull over. After turning the car off and on, the ACC works again on the second try. This problem seems to occur mostly during acceleration, but it feels quite random.

I’ve already unplugged and cleaned the connectors (no corrosion on the wires), and I’ve cleaned the emblem and the camera. Sometimes the fault appears on a short 5km drive, while other times it doesn’t occur even on a 500km drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response. I haven't cleared any fault codes yet. It's a bit confusing for me because I initially assumed the engine was going into limp mode and disabling the ACC. However, the scan shows 01-Engine -- Status: Malfunction 0010, but no actual fault code is displayed.

I'm considering disconnecting the battery for a week, driving the car until the error reappears, and hopefully, that will trigger the engine fault code to show.

Not that I am aware of, and the power does not seem to be more than the stock 220PS. What is the stock boost so that I can verify?

MVB or Advance Measure Values should show you "specified" boost pressure and "actual" boost pressure. "Specified" is what the ECU is commanding, "actual" is what is being measured by the sensor(s).

This morning, I logged the car to check if it might be tuned. The outside temperature was about 10°C, and I was in 3rd gear. Comparing the actual vs. requested boost pressure, it showed a peak of around 1.38 bar, which seems normal.

I also attempted a readiness test, but it got stuck and didn’t complete. The Oxygen Sensor(s) and Catalytic Converter(s) failed or showed as incomplete. So, I’m now considering replacing the Oxygen Sensor(s).

I have a couple of questions:

  1. How many Oxygen Sensors are there?
  2. If the sensors are faulty, why isn’t there an error code stored in the ECU?

Your engine's SW is 1444. The most current one is 3069. I'd perform the SW update and see if the problem prevails.

Can VCDS perform a software update, or is that only possible with dealer tools or would an independent shop be able to update the software I’m new to the Netherlands, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ODIS with online access to VW's file server required. It's possible that an independent shop has all that, but not likely.

Getting the 01-Engine controller flash updated to the newest level would be a good idea but I wonder if something silly is causing this intermittent issue? Perhaps buggy data from one of the wheel speed sensors or brake light switch inputs? Take note if the EPC light comes on the next time this happens.

It would be ideal to capture data when it malfunctions but in order to establish a baseline I'd run Measuring Value function control module maps on address 01-Engine and 03-ABS. Mapping instructions can be found here: https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/controller-channels-map.php

If you can do those immediately after a drive (but while stopped) I think there's a better chance of obtaining more data. If you happened to have the laptop and could capture maps while pulled over and before you restart the car when it malfunctions that would be ideal.

You can open those CSV files with Notepad, copy the contents and paste them in-between CODE tags just like the Auto-Scans. They end up looking like this at that point: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/40746​

The hope is the maps help determine which IDE07599 Drivetrain coord: cause of shutdown in cruise cntr and ACC mode -and- IDE07904 Brake test switch / Brake light switch ADV measuring values are supported by your 01 controller in addition to what kind of data 03 supports for brake light, brake pressure and wheel speeds. In that case we may be able to point you to a few groups that can be focused on.

Here’s an update on the issue: I ordered some parts from VW to try and resolve the readiness problem. I replaced the mechatronics seal after noticing a small oil leak and changed the gearbox oil along with all the correct seals and filter. I also replaced the upstream oxygen sensor. However, the readiness test still fails, so I’m wondering if the downstream sensor is faulty or if the car’s catalytic converter has been removed. I’ll check when I have time.

This weekend, I went on a 200km drive, and the car ran perfectly—no signs of limp mode at all. My next steps are to replace the downstream oxygen sensor (if the catalytic converter is still in place) and to make an appointment with VW to update the control modules. I’ll also ask them to perform the basic settings for the backup camera.

But the error chain i see is:

1. ABS/ESP is unhappy

1 Fault Found:
0335 - Databus
U1123 00 [00001000] - Received Error Message
[MSG_MO1_STA_BREMSE_INVALID]

2. Because of 1. than ACC is unhappy, too.

but have you or somebody activated Byte 16 Bit 7 for [A5] ?
You car has PR-7Y0 (No lane change assistant).

This must have been me, I activated Lane Keep Assist and likely enabled Lane Change Assist in the process. I’m planning to retrofit Blind Spot Monitoring and enable Lane Change Assist in the future.

It’s worth noting that the car was going into limp mode even before I activated Lane Keep Assist.

Thank you! I’ve checked and thoroughly cleaned all the wheel speed sensors to address the ABS/ESP problem but did not fix the problem.

MO1_Sta_Bremse is not related to the Wheelspeed Sensors.

Here is the German explanation: "Eingriffswunsch (ASR oder MSR) vom Bremsen-Steuergerät (ABS) kann nicht ausgeführt werden, weil im Motorsteuergerät ein statischer Fehler vorliegt oder die Funktion durch die Applikation abgeschaltet ist Fehlerstatus Brems-Momenteneingriff"

In short English: ABS requests Engine Power reduction, but Engine does have an internal Error and can not do it, so updating the ECU Software is the best guess to solve this.

I have an update regarding the ACC fault. I contacted my local VW dealer, and they confirmed that the car has been tuned since 2022. Because of this, they’re unable to perform the ECU update. I’ve requested that they flash the car back to stock and am currently waiting for their response.

In the meantime, is anyone able to assist with flashing the car back to stock and resolving this issue? After some research, it seems like vagtechniek.nl might be able to help.
