Long term, an R8 may actually appreciate in value, assuming of course that it is kept in good condition.

Personally, I'd love to have a first-gen one, with a V8 and a proper manual transmission. However, my garage space is all full, and I sure wouldn't leave such a car sitting outdoors.

Correct, something similar happens to me, never leave the car in street, never no car of mine was washed by another person, I always wash them. In my garage only enters 1 car.The use that I give to my car is only on weekends to go from my city to my country house on the outskirts.I do 1000 km per year.

Are you sure you want one? I wouldn't dare to purchase one before 2010 model year or later. Early R8's were prone to having the front frame crack at a critical point very close to the front suspension. So much so that quite a few were totaled by insurance companies because of this defect. In late 2010 audi revised the fame and added a gusset in that area to rectify the issue. The v8's were dogs in those cars, engines were similar to those from the rs4 with different intakes and some other changes but overall were somewhat good. Proper manual transmission for the win for sure. However based on some facts and connections within AUDI AG. I was told the first gen TTRS for the NA market in 2013 got detuned from 400hp down to 360hp because at 400 it was faster than the r8, imagine how many people that would of pissed off?

I was not aware of that.

Instant warp speed has little appeal to me anymore. If it did, I'd just get a Tesla Model S Plaid. ;)

In fact, I have fond memories of being able to wring out some of my older cars on public roads, something that's very difficult to do without going jail in a car that's "excessively" fast. Heck, even my Mk.7 Golf R is faster than necessary. I rarely drive it because it brings out Mr. Hyde in me.

Been there done that many times. Often wondering if the coast is clear to drive home after the fact. There's a time and place for everything, just knowing if needed theres plenty of HP and torque on tap is always a good thing.
