Hello everyone, my name is Alan, I am from Argentina, and in my country cars are extremely expensive, but I want to fulfill my dream of having an Audi R8 V10 2014.
My intention is to buy the following car that had this problem with the S tronic: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/44700/
The car in question is this one: https://auto.mercadolibre.com.ar/ML...cking_id=0ae3e8bd-f2d5-40fe-9d37-e34e1fb35248
The car was seized in 2018 by the police and was probably mistreated by them, and then it was stopped for 3 years without being used.I wanted to know what I should check on a car that was stopped for so long.On the other hand, I spoke with the person who made the arrangement at the counter (he is the person who opened the previous topic) and he told me that they changed the 3rd and 7th gear fork but that they put a 7 speed Passar DSG, since Audi Argentina did not sell the spare parts separately, but only the complete transmission for 95,000 dollars. Can this cause any problems later?
I ask this because I do not want my dream to become a nightmare, since it cost me 25 years of hard work to get all the money together
Thank you very much to everyone

You would be foolish to take that risk with 25 years of savings !!

Did you mean Passat ??
Yes I meant to say passat sorry.
The thing is that few Audi R8s were produced in my country, so I don't have much variety to choose from.

25 years savings you want to put in a piece of iron which sits in the street and loose value?

It's 25 years of savings devoted to my dream of a supercar. I already have 4 properties and many investments that allow me to live well.
My question was about mechanics, not economics.

Surely a Passat Gearbox is the wrong gearbox ?? Can it, and the clutches transfer the power ??

In my country it is forbidden to import cars from other countries, so I have to make do with what I have here.
The explanation given to me by the mechanic who made the repair is that Audi does not sell the internal parts of the gearbox, but rather the entire gearbox, which is why he only changed that.
My question is whether a VW DSG can share one of those parts with an Audi S tronic.

I imagined, I guess there can't be any problems since it's not that much torque that it has to support since the R8 is an engine without a turbo.

That is funny !!

Anyway, the harsh truth and reality is this - Your Money > Your Decision > Your Car > Your Problem > Your Nightmare

On the other hand - Good luck - hope it serves you well !!

The Audi R8 V10 peak torque can be up to 580Nm (428 lb.ft).

To be fair - It is not entirely clear that he has transplanted a entire Passat Box into the R8 or just a few components - Selector Forks?? to repair the original R8 box ??

If the latter then they may be identical components and a good repair ??

Only a few components of the box have been changed, the 3rd and 7th forks, as the person who repaired it said in this topic:
I spoke on the phone with this person and he swore to me that the car was perfect and the gears shifted wonderfully, but well, since it is an expensive car, I wanted some more opinions from experts like those on this forum.
Thanks and Regards

Get a Auto-Scan and prove it!!! I wonder what the owners definition of "perfect" is. (looks, visual) Your not interested in a nice paint job.

Since Economics are not a concern here , I would purchase a RT Hex-Net, and go scan that vehicle and post the Auto-Scan here on your Thread ; the forum will advise from there.

You MUST(must, must, must) go evaluate the vehicle in person and take a competent mechanic with you (pay him or her). Also, you need to get under the vehicle and take a look around.

What the owner tells you over the phone is (boarder line) worthless!

Auto-Scan!!!!!

Yes, I agree. Before buying it, my intention was to take the car to a specialized Audi workshop in Argentina that is an official representative of APR, and have it scanned and lifted to inspect everything underneath.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

An auto scan can be altered quite easily !!

That would be a good idea

Long term, an R8 may actually appreciate in value, assuming of course that it is kept in good condition.

Personally, I'd love to have a first-gen one, with a V8 and a proper manual transmission. However, my garage space is all full, and I sure wouldn't leave such a car sitting outdoors.
