Hello!

I just finished installing the VCDS software for my new Hex-V2 device. I know I have to do an auto-scan to send it to you, and I'm reading about it. Just to double-check the instructions: Do I do the auto-scan with the ignition on but the engine off? I have a VW Tiguan 2011 S with a manual transmission. The reason I asked this question is because I read somewhere that the scan takes a long time and may drain the battery.

Kind regards,

Tony.

It's normal to do the Auto-Scan with ignition on and engine off, but I've done some with the engine running with no issues - the Auto-Scan is basically non-invasive (although it does briefly stop the ABS and infotainment working while those modules are being scanned).

If you have such a weak battery that you think it will be drained during a 5min scan, just turn off all the consumers during the scan.
I typically flip the light switch to OFF from Auto, turn HU and HVAC OFF, roll down a window, shut the door, and scan.....
Even when scanning vehicles with an old, weak battery, I've yet to drain it using this process.

Once you get "rolling" using VCDS, you will want to think about a battery charger (not a maintainer) ; this video should give
you some insight(s)!
