Hi Guys,

I've got a fault:

00281 - Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68)
37-10 - Faulty - Intermittent

I had a quick google and it comes up with a sensor for automatic gearbox's but i have a 6 speed manual?

another weird fact (which you will see from autoscan) is that its showing in the auto hvac section

any ideas?

Get some one to test drive the car for you, go into 08-08-001.3 and see if you get a valid reading.

But at the same time, if the HVAC is working fine, I'm not sure how deep I'd dig into this.

I’ll give that a try. But yeah I get what you mean, just abit odd?

Previous owner mentioned the vehicle had an “economic map”

Is it possible it could be a copied and pasted map from an auto pd130 and not even exist in the car?

I wouldn't expect a re-map to affect what fault codes the HVAC throws. However, that HVAC module does want to know the vehicle's speed, but it's unclear to me where it gets the speed information. I'm guessing it should come in the form of CAN messages from the Instrument Cluster.

Pretty sure all manual transissios in mk4 have a VSS in them and have had that sensor for a very long time going all the way back to the mid 1980's.

I think that's correct. The question then is: What's that VSS connected to? On cars with internal CAN networks (which this is, but pre-2000 ones are not), I would think it's connected to the instrument cluster and the other modules get vehicle speed via CAN messages, but I'm not 100% certain about that.

I would think direct connection to cluster, ECM and abs for sure if it's got cruise control I would think all of those modules want to know vehicle speed. OP should check wiring diagram.

G22, would of been wired up to the cluster... the "GALA" signal.
