How are the reverse light(s) triggered to turn on? My guess is that there's a switch in or near the gearbox (of a manual transmission) that is connected to the BCM, which then relays power to the reverse lights.

If this is the case, what pin(s) does the Reverse gear switch connect to on the BCM. Also, does it trigger a CAN signal, which would activate OPS on the infotainment?

Looking for some advice on both PQ and MQB vehicles, please!

Erwin and WD - Will answer that for you and much more !!

Without an autoscan it is impossible to answer that here !!

on both PQ and MQB vehicles,

There could be many variations on each platform.

There isn't a "one size fits all" answer to your question, it's going to be vehicle model, transmission type, engine type and model year dependent.

Is/are there specific vehicle(s) you are asking about?

No specific vehicle, but I need some way of sending a signal across the CAN network to trigger the OPS on a MIB radio system on a bench setup, both on PQ and MQB.

Generally in manual transmission PQ35/46/47 and MQB vehicles, there's a reverse gear switch (Elsawin/Erwin designation "F4") on the gearbox. It's wired to the CECM/BCM, which actuates the reverse light(s) directly. There are absolutely no relays outside the CECM/BCM for basic vehicle interior/exterior lighting in those platforms. Other modules (PDC/PLA, radio etc) receive the reverse signal over CAN.

Many thanks - I'll look into it.

I agree. Almost like it could have been written like that in the first place, rather than from cryptic, indirect responses.

Earlier I posted :
There could be many variations on each platform.

May I ask why that was not good enough for you !!

It had many qualities:
True !
Accurate !
Easy to read !
Jargon Free !
Not Cryptic ?
Not Indirect ?
