So, more than once now I have come across a situation where someone outside of the US claims their car is of a MY newer than what the 10th digit of the vin is dictating. IE- 10th digit being a "B" but the person claims their car is a 2012. Obviously this doesn't apply here in the states but do some countries classify a car's MY in other ways?

People claim a lot of stuff, reality is in 99% of the cases the 10th digit is correct. There were some very rare cases in the where for legal reasons the car had a certain 10th digit but the build date / internal model year was actually newer. If you really wanna know, run the via through erWin or partslink24 - both will list the real model year. Note, this is not country specific. Feel free to send me the VIN in question via email and I'll check it.
